The Smith-Marsette tipped ball interception with .42 seconds left on 3rd and 4. Look at Easley and our very bottom receiver, the cushion they have... I tried to upload the screenshot but I can't... 3:00 minute mark...

Wasn't Stanley getting rushed pretty hard there? Also, that, to me, was the least of our problems. We killed ourselves Saturday.

Guy was coming off the edge so he had to get rid of it. Too much juice on the throw and ISM has been known to drop a few.
Stanley threw it where the LB cleared from so exactly where it should go.
I would like to see Marsette go more vertical seeing the LB blitzing. He would have given humself and Stanley a better chance to complete that one.
Sargent would have cleared in another two steps and I think Stanley had enough time to get it to him as well.

Yeah, that's a big cushion. Wish Iowa could have seen the 2v1 there to Easley out wide and let Smith block. Could have been a big play and stopped the clock.

Stanley's read was right. Just threw it way too hard.
My point is that Nate's read was all wrong. He was determined to force the ball in right there and even if Smith-Marsette catches that ball, he probably wouldn't have made the first down. Those bottom 2 corners are 15 yards deep, throw a 6 yard curl to Smith or Easley and we are in business!

Not that it matters, but in the video it looks like Niemann could have made a tackle on the last Wisconsin TD but backed off and let the guy go. Maybe it was just me or the angle of the camera.
I agree, he was there to make the tackle, but I think he was trying to go for the strip on the outside arm and just couldn't get it done from his angle.

heady play, if he could have pulled it off. he gonna be good.

I hate to bag NS because i like a lot of what he brings, but i made comments in another thread, complaining about his reads and the time he takes trying to diagnosis the defense. Maybe ISM is the right play in that example, though. If he catches that ball, he has Two guys blocking for him on the outside. NS put too much in the pass... game over

Niemann hurt his PCL on the play & is out at least a couple weeks...

I'm gonna be the one to disagree here, but that was the right read. The backers cleared out so Nate correctly hit the crosser who was in the space they just vacated. Unfortunately put a little too much juice on it, but ISM should still come up with that, so equal blame.

IF he catches that, he should likely have the 1st down, and with his wheels, maybe more if he puts a move on the roll-down safety.

This. If he just takes a little off the throw and just dumps it to him instead of an all out bullet. ISM has the first down and if he makes a guy miss a big gain.

I will never for the life of me understand why QBs think it's a good idea to rifle a pass to a WIDE OPEN receiver as hard as they can. This is not the first time Stanley has made this mistake. He actually does it quite often. I hope he learns from this.

It's called stress from pressure. Be it real or perceived.

At least I always suffered from that when I played QB. Back in 5th grade flag football.

Looking back for the 700th time, it really wasn't a bad read... You guys are right. Too much zip. I will say, I was watching the game and they zoomed in on Nate's eyes at the LOS right before that play... He looked scared shitless. I remember thinking, ohhh shit. Anyway, like PSU last year, this one is a tough swallow. I'd rather look back and dissect and discuss, than be average joe and say, "we lost." Maybe this is our sick way of turning the page?

Wisconsin was penalized 8 times for 68 yards. Those guys were shooting themselves in the foot left and right. We should have beat them.

That said, if they cannot fix this stat, and it is pervasive this season so far, they will lose 2-3 games.

Didn't help the DE at the top of the screen comes at him untouched. Feel like we messed up the protection as well.
