Looking at the Big Ten, after Week 2

The Big Ten has two Top 25 programs and they are both Top 4 worthy.
1. Ohio State (2-0) - they will more likely beat self, before another team rises to the occasion in '15?
2. Michigan State (2-0) - The Spartans took care of Oregon, as one would hope for the B1G banner!

Not sure any of the remaining Big Ten East teams are without major questions at various spots.
  • Michigan (1-1) - they will likely be competitive in 2015, especially in Ann Arbor, but they have a lot of questions outside Ann Arbor. Jim Harbaugh was successful in the Big Ten and in the NFL, but he is an odd duck. The Bo factor is an expectation of Michigan getting every call. Remember, Iowa #1 vs. Michigan #2 before replay 30 years ago. In 1981 and 1985, Iowa scored zero TDs, but still won each game o_O
  • Maryland (1-1) and Rutgers (1-1) both lost in Week 2 - justice of sorts?
  • Penn State (1-1) - This isn't the Penn State of old. They beat Buffalo, though, but it wasn't pretty at times. They may simply be growing into a dangerous team in '15, but not buying anything yet.
  • Indiana (2-0) - good candidate for the weakest 2-0 Power 5 programs?
So, what should we think about the Big Ten West, other than it is a wide open race.
  • Illinois (2-0) - Heading to @ UNC for the first real test in the new Bill Cubit era, but they have an interesting set of games ahead of bye week. The Fighting Illini should be competitive, if they can keep Wes Lunt healthy.
  • Iowa (2-0) - This is a better Hawkeye team than '14. There opponents Illinois State and Iowa State aren't really Wisconsin, Minnesota or Nebraska, so don't want to consider false gold, but Iowa is far better today, than what we saw in January against Tennessee. Not sure ready for Wisconsin though?
  • Northwestern (2-0) - The Wildcats took care of Stanford and a poor Eastern Illinois team. @ Duke should be test for Pat Fitzgerald's young Wildcats on offense. This team is improved, over '14, as well. All three mentioned are improved.
  • Wisconsin (1-1) - Not sure Miami-OH, Troy and Hawaii will tell us a lot about the strengths of the Badgers. Paul Chryst may be a tough out in Madison. But, do we will want to BUY the Badgers yet?
  • Minnesota (1-1) - They picked up a win against a Colorado State team on the road. CSU has had only one coach ever open 2-0 and they came close yesterday of having #2. Does that say enough that Minnesota is a team that will hang around, due to a very salty defense, but could be another '14 Iowa.
  • Nebraska (1-1) - Is win over South Alabama anything to really say much. @ Miami-FL this week is a statement game for the Cornhuskers under Mike Riley. A win will have the fan base talking sweep in the Big Ten West. A loss, would be another chink in the armor for a program that hasn't won a title in over 10 years.
  • Purdue (1-1) - This program has improving. Not sure the record will show it though, we shall see ... the Boilermakers host Virginia Tech at home, this Saturday.
The Big Ten has two very good programs, a Big Ten West that is wide open in '15 and a couple of Big Name programs that are not at the level they expect to be at.
