This guy has the recipe to unite us. He mocks both sides taking themselves too seriously. His explaining jokes to idiots is genius.
While I think he's intelligent, and does have some good takes/thoughts as they apply to either side...I just think he's an ass overall. Being a douche and riling up both sides doesn't make him funny, which he isn't.
Instant validation of Maher’s point. While I think he's intelligent, and does have some good takes/thoughts as they apply to either side...I just think he's an ass overall. Being a douche and riling up both sides doesn't make him funny, which he isn't.
Instant validation of Maher’s point.
And the guy is hilarious. I saw him at the Civic Center in Des Moines in 2017. His standup is even better than Real Time. I would go to see another of his shows in a heartbeat.
In your opinion, is it possible just to not find him that funny? Or does it always have to be a partisan thing?Geessh...just admit it. You'd like him if he only riled up one side.
I can definitely recommend. The show in 2017 was excellent.Keep hoping he comes back to the Midwest again at some point, would like to see him live.
I think he has his hits and misses, basically. Monologue will sometimes have some really good stuff. The writing on the show isn't bad and the mid-show bit is usually the most consistently funny. While I think he's intelligent, and does have some good takes/thoughts as they apply to either side...I just think he's an ass overall. While I agree with his cancel culture comments in many cases, there are times it is an appropriate response. I do think that comics, in general, should be given a pass. Not everyone likes every comic. If you don't like the jokes someone does, don't listen to them, don't go to their shows, and generally just ignore them. They are out there trying to make money and even if you don't like them, there are others that do.
For example, you may not find jokes about rape funny. You may think there are no situations where a joke that even insinuates rape is funny. But a comedian might make a joke involving it. I certainly don't think there is much to laugh about, but I don't think people should destroy a comedian just because they made a joke about rape. That doesn't mean they have to listen to it, but calling for an all out boycott is stupid. Now, if that comedian was actually raping people, or was going on non-gig platforms and starts talking about how rape should be allowed or something, then yes, that is a horrible human being that has earned the consequences. But for just doing their job (even if it's in a way you don't like)? I'm with Maher on that front.
That’s cool. Like you said, to each his own. If you don’t find him funny, you don’t find him funny. I just think he has a point about people shutting down and getting offended over a joke.To each his own, I think he's full of himself and unfunny. He's not correct or funny often enough, for me, to get away with being a dbag, which is 100% of the reason I quit watching Real Time.

Mannerisms, dress, speech, attitude. Some people get bent over stuff like that. But those are just aesthetic qualities... so meh. I try not to judge someone in shabby clothes, or that mumbles, or whatever... so it goes the other way too.How is he being a douche?
He has a great take on race. He knows when it comes down to it, we are just people. The guy on your team , at work, and at home are people who deserve respect and everyone deserves this. He emphasizes talking to each other and listening rather than automatically dismissing someone who doesn't share your beliefs.Mannerisms, dress, speech, attitude. Not sure where you live or what's considered a reasonable drive for you, but Maher will be in Minneapolis on June 5 and Indianapolis on June 6.Keep hoping he comes back to the Midwest again at some point, would like to see him live.
Remember that time Bill Maher defended Armie Hammer? Screw that guy.
Some people find Jeff Dunham funny. I don’t because I’m liberal. Oh, and I don’t like puppets either.

Personal attacks are all you have. I guess threatening someone with violence hasn’t worked out well for you.How long before you are able to understand them?

Do you always hate people who disagree with you?Doesn't work if you've never tried it.
My wife will become literally angry if she sees a comedian step on stage with a puppet or a guitar.
I can definitely recommend. The show in 2017 was excellent.
Wasn't Politically Incorrect which was the PG version of this show several years before The Daily Show?I'm indifferent on Maher. You have to be in the mood for the formula they took directly from The Daily Show. He does it well, but it's paint by number for these writers now.

Gotta be some actual comedians coming to those areas I would hope. Not sure where you live or what's considered a reasonable drive for you, but Maher will be in Minneapolis on June 5 and Indianapolis on June 6.

People need to respect the rights of others. What is right and what is wrong with this world incorporates more than one person’s opinion. Parents walk a tight line with their children as they want to “protect” them but they are obligated to “ let them go” too. Parents need to parent their kids..they needn’t worry about befriending them. Kids want to love mom and dad...the don’t wanna hang out with them.Yeah, that's what I hate, and I never do: trying to remove someone/thing from the public sphere because I don't personally agree with or like what they said.
By all means, write editorials, voice your opinion, withhold your money. But don't try to "cancel" the person. I lose respect for you the second you do that. It's small minded stuff and I refuse to participate. I think that's the problematic essence of "cancel culture" and what we need less of.
