History lesson: In 1969-70, Iowa played a modest preconference schedule and finished 6-5, including a loss to a military team called "Subpac" that I believe they played in Hawaii.I'd be thrilled if Iowa ever had a season that they played a tough early non-con schedule and struggled but got progressively better as the season unfolded
They could fill it up, thats for sure. Still remember LISTENING to those games on the radio with my dad, when I was in elementary school.History lesson: In 1969-70, Iowa played a modest preconference schedule and finished 6-5, including a loss to a military team called "Subpac" that I believe they played in Hawaii.
Well, that Iowa team ended up one of the top five in Hawkeye history, going 14-0 in the Big Ten, winning the conference title, and averaging over 100 points per game long before the 3-point shot. It was a team that could have won the national title, but lost to Jacksonville by 1 point in the NCAA.
The point: The preconference record didn't matter. Few remember that, but no Iowa fan will ever forget John Johnson, Fred Brown, and company.
MSU never looks all that good in the first ~5 or 6 games, never.Spartans win a tight one, 63-61.
Spartans don't seem to have much of a bench so far. Maybe they have injured players but they only got 9 bench points in this game.
