Luc Laketa commits to hawks

Don't recall you saying good things about Fran, like you did in your second paragraph.
I’ve said plenty of good things about Fran. Even defended his character a time or two against fans of other teams.

Fran is a good coach and a good man. I’ve never said otherwise. I’ve also said he’ll likely never see the second weekend of the tourney without a ticket. I believe both things are true.

So far, you are dead on. Post season failure is by far my biggest knock on Fran.

Rarely do walk on talents become basketball contributors...but at least walk ons are high effort/high character.
Nicholas Baer was a rare exception.
CJF was a walkon. It didn't last long. But when he initially committed he was going to walkon.

CJF situation was not similar at all.

CJF turned down scholly offer(s) to walk on at Iowa because he and his family were so close to Fran. It came with the expectation that he would be put on scholly as soon as one became available, and one did become available when C. Willliams transferred out..

Laketa may be a contributor in some capacity down the road, but agree that comparing his situation to CJ's is not close to accurate. CJ was a highly regarded high school player from a power-house high school program. Laketa's dad knows Fran from Notre Dame and Fran offered both Luc and his brother preferred walk-on spots. Luc's brother took an offer from a D-3 school in Illinois, that Luc was also considering until Fran called.

No impact on scholarships to have these kids as walk-on players and if they develop into a contributor down the road and earn a scholarship, good for them.

Laketa will hopefully contribute more
