And 3 assists.

Problem was 4-11 from the floor but he started and played 25 min. TC didn't play.

I thought I misread it when I saw Garza had 5 blocks in the box score. But, sure enough. Watched his highlights and a few of his blocks were freaking awesome. Never thought I'd see that type of play from him on the defensive side, but I should've known better. He's put his mind to improving his D as much as he can and when he decides to work on something, he just keeps working until he gets some results.

Garza has always been pretty good at blocking shots when he's in position. The problem in college was that he was constantly out of position trying to help out whichever guard lost their man.

Yep, his defensive tape in college looked very bad because of how crappy our guards have been at stopping dribble penetration. Our bigs have always had to rotate to provide help and often times it comes too late. Luka will never be a great pick and roll defender off of a switch, but he can be fine as a post defender. A good coach can figure out a defensive scheme that works with him on the floor when they have NBA athleticism at every other position. Plus Luka will only get better with his work ethic.

Garza’s defense sometimes looked crappy in college because he couldn’t get called for fouls. Trading 1 Garza foul for 2 points wasn’t worth it.

His ability to avoid foul trouble was incredible.

While Garza's feet definitely aren't the quickest, I agree this was a factor.

Yes, mindset will be different knowing he might play what 10-12 minutes on the high end in the NBA versus at Iowa, he had to typically go 35 or so minutes. Not that he can just rack up fouls, but he had to be so careful in college.

Prediction: Garza makes the team and is a fan-favorite. Fans will be calling him to play over the 37 millionaire man, Kelly Olynk.
