Luka gets full NBA contract

This is great news! It shows that the Pistons are willing to make a commitment to Luka. Sometimes players on two way contracts get jerked around.

Skip ahead to the 1:13:30 mark to hear 6 1/2 minutes from the greatest basketball player in Iowa mens basketball history.

Dwane Casey said during an interview that any player who doesn't put in the work will face consequences. I believe he really likes Luka because of the work ethic he has. He's holding all the players to a higher standard and it should translate into a fun season. Whether it will show in the W-L column remains to be seen. He likes Kelley Olynyk and I believe Luka will learn a great deal from him. That said, I may begin to watch the NBA again. Thank you, Luka.

Olynyk def has that vibe of being the guy that just outworks the other team. You are like, ‘why are losing to this dude?’ Haha.

Garza at 235 is pretty light. Part of his success is due to him being able to muscle his way to the rim.

He's going to have to be able to move better in the NBA. He's too slow at the higher weight.

Not a big need for that in the NBA anymore. The few true centers left are much stronger than Luka regardless his weight. He needed to slim down to become a real outside threat. He is doing exactly what he needs to do to have a nice NBA career.

Here is Luka's contract, about $2.5MM over 2 years

Hope he has a good money manager.;)
Yeah, he will net about $700K per year after taxes and agent commission. As a single guy, he should be able to sock away quite a bit of that. He might be able to do some local endorsement deals as some additional gravy. Now if he can prove himself, his post rookie deal could be quite a bit bigger.

I just grabbed one example who seems like a reasonable comparison (games are quite different but....)

Dwight Powell is a C for the Mavs, was a mid 2nd rounder IIRC, but he now earns about $11MM per year (3 year/$33MM) and is a career 7 PPG player.

Even if Luka, earned about half of that, maybe 3 year/$17MM, now that is some serious money.

See Garza has only played 2 game out of the last 9. Pistons also added Bagley III, whom is playing well. Will they keep him as the third C? Not sure how the NBA works.
