After earning a scholarship offer from the Hawkeyes this past week, Lukas Van Ness is headed to the University of Iowa. The 6-foot-5, 240-pound Barrington, IL native gave his verbal commitment today after wrapping up his official visit to Iowa City.

"I felt comfortable because from the minute I stepped on campus it felt like home to me," Van Ness told HawkeyeReport.com. "Iowa represents exactly what I aspire for in my life through hard work and good relationships."

While Van Ness has grown up in Illinois, his family has roots in the Hawkeye State and his older sister is already in Iowa City.

"We have a long line of connections to Iowa," said Van Ness. "My sister is currently a sophomore at the Tippie College of Business. Also, my dad grew up a Hawkeye fan in a small town just south of Des Moines. Most of my dad's side of the family currently resides all over Iowa and they love Hawkeye football."

A three-star prospect, Van Ness chose Iowa over scholarship offers from Minnesota, Illinois, Kansas, Kansas State, Wyoming, Air Force, Navy, Memphis, Tulane, Northern Illinois, Ohio, Western Michigan, Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Columbia, Cornell, Brown, Dartmouth, Lehigh, Holy Cross, Tennessee-Martin, Eastern Illinois, Eastern Kentucky, Southern Illinois, South Dakota, and Western Illinois.

Overall, Van Ness is commitment No. 18 for the Iowa coaching staff in the Class of 2020.

Bang! Another big commit in an increasingly productive recruiting wknd! Great to have Van Ness join the Hawks!

Is this a great weekend or what? Thank you Lukas for giving your verbal to the Hawkeyes. The defense is shaping up to be a championship unit and you are a major part of that. Can't wait to watch you terrorizing our opponent's backfields in the years to come. You made a great choice!

In addition to Illinois, Minnesota, Kansas State and Kansas, offers from Air Force, Navy, Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Brown, Columbia...

I suspect he will do well in the classroom. There's a lot to be said for smart football players.

You beat me to it I was gonna say I think he'll be able to stay eligible. welcome aboard Lukas.

Hmmm. What was your latest handle before you got banned? Nebbie or Clown troll?

Ken joined four days ago. I believe in positive thinking. He no doubt abandoned his allegiance to those inferior, ahem, "universities" and saw the Hawkeye light.

In contrast to Ames and Lincoln there is no ag school at the UI, so Ken's opportunities for sex with livestock will be extremely limited.

Van Ness said that Deuce Hogan gave the group of recruits a speech during the player panel that really resonated with him and others.

"Deuce was the first of my class to commit and has taken a leadership role. He talked about why he chose Iowa so early and how they have stayed so true to their word. He mentioned how Iowa doesn’t try to sell you on their program, but rather shows exactly how it would be to play there. It was so genuine and true. His speech resonated with me because I felt the same way. From the moment I met with Iowa months ago, everything the coaches have said to me stayed true and honest. I knew exactly what I was getting."

Lots of pretty girls on campus will not hurt.

I really don't get people going to other teams' forums to talk random crap. I know there are Iowa fans that do the same thing and it is just as pathetic
What's the rivals boards without a little conversation among enemies. :)
