FYI: Iowa, miraculously, a 6 in St. Louis playing either #11 South Carolina or St. Mary's. Not that it really matters the way the Hawkeyes look now, but that would probably be about as good an opportunity as could be expected.

Iowa State, a 5, would be in Denver against Arkansas-Little Rock, and UNI would be a 13 in Denver against Texas A&M. And if both ISU and UNI won, they'd meet in the next game.

I thought if you played this year already, you can't meet until the sweet 16.

CBS has Iowa a 7 playing the 10 Temple in Spokane, Oregon is the #2.

USA Today has Iowa a 7 vs 10 VCU in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma is the #2 - nightmare bracket

Warren Nolan has Iowa a 7 vs South Carolina in Denver, Utah is the #2

I hope we hold on to that 6 seed. A 7 seed would be so disappointing as that was what we were last year AND means a 2 seed in the second round.
I doubt we would get a 5 seed but there is a 12 over 5 upset pretty much every year and the way we've closed this season we'd be ripe for such an upset.
Yep. Holding out for that 6 seed. Go Hawks!

A 6th seed means that Iowa is one of the top 24 teams
in the nation. With their record the last 3 weeks that
could be debatable. The Hawkeyes will be lucky to get
a 7th or 8th seed.
It's weird how many of our fans think that the only part of our season that matters is the last three weeks. Almost every statistical ranking has Iowa in the top 24 teams except rpi, where we are 26th amongst eligible teams. Behind st Joes who won't be ahead of us. Our composite rating is 20.3 between the six used for seeding.

Because the committee is filled with human beings and not robots. They judge the end of the season.

Not they don't

"At least in our industry we talk a lot about how teams perform in their final 10 games. There are cases like Louisville and Syracuse where it doesn’t seem like it matters, then there’s North Carolina State and Virginia where it seems like it did. Is there any extra emphasis placed on the finish of a season? How do you emphasize that over the rest of a schedule?

Wellman: Good question. No, it is not emphasized. A number of years ago there was a criterion that the Committee used, and that was the performance over the last 10 games. We eliminated that criterion probably three or four years ago I believe. We no longer have that as a criterion. We look at the entire body of work. We continually remind one another in the selection process that the games in November are as important as the games in March."

Have you watched Iowa basketball the last 3 weeks? Did you catch any of the stats from the IL game or happen to see what happened to IL in their next game? I am even more surprised people are questioning why any of us are questioning the state of Iowa basketball. Yes, at one time people lived in caves and wore wooly mammoth furs for clothes, but that is not the standard for judging fashion today.

'Just be glad we aren't Rutgers' should replace 'Fight, Fight, Fight for Iowa ' because the notion we would want to be competitive, relevant in March or possibly see the Sweet 16 before Chelsea Clinton is elected president are expectations of 'bad fans'.

And according to what they claim, the committee doesn't put extra weight on the end of the season. I think that's wrong; I think they should, and I think they do. But I'm just repeating what I've seen.

They're human beings. Human beings have some bias regardless of what they think.

Still wish we turn down the bid and tell Clemmons and Gesell that they don't deserve to play in the tournament.

I like the St Mary's match up the best. St. Mary's is going to come out and try to out score their opponent, which is a good match up for the Hawks. South Carolina is a physical grind it team. As far as the #2 seed, Utah and Jakob Poeltl would destroy Iowa. He has way too much game for Woody. Poeltl went off for 31 last night against Cal. The Cal Bears threw 3 bigs at Poetl including freshman sensation Ivan Robb and Poeltl was just to crafty. The way Iowa guards the perimeter, Buddy might score 40 plus against them. Right now Iowa would trouble matching up with Iowa City West.

Sure coaches will say that to help their own case, but in the mix of things, in the huddles, in the lockerroom, no.......that is not true at all.

Ron Wellman isn't a coach. He was the committee chair in 14 and the AD at Wake. Ya know what, forget it. Can't believe I engaged an idiot like you.

What makes you think the Cal Bears would be pushover. They finished 3rd in the Pac 12 with a 23-10 record (12-6) in the Pac 12.

In their two games with Arizona the Cal Bears won 74-73 and lost 61-64 at Arizona. Cal also beat Oregon by 20 83-63 and only lost at Oregon 65-68. Cal also just lost by 1 point at Virginia 62-63 in overtime. Cal beat Utah 71-58 then lost at Utah 64-73 which was their biggest margin of loss over the above teams then lost to Utah in the Pac 12 tournament 78-82 in OT.

I'm not sure Iowa wants to think Cal would be a pushover in the NCAA tournament.

Idiot huh..........well I suppose that would be true, if I weren't making a statement about coaches in general (in terms of pleading their NCAA tournament resume cases), which would probably make you the idiot, then, for assuming that I was referring to Ron Wellman.

:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

Yes, you might want to forget that this ever happened. Your bad.

Holy cow! A 6 seed would be an inexplicable gift. This team has been horrible for a month. I could see how our overall resume would keep us out of the 8/9 spot, but 6? Anyway who's watched this team since the Penn St games sees that this is in reality a mid-level NIT team.

Whether we're a 6 or 7, Iowa will be far and away the most popular pick for a higher seed losing in the first round. Then, of course, the way Iowa's fortunes have been, the #3 seed would also lose, then we'll have to sit and watch a #11-#14 matchup, wondering yet again what could have been had our team not turned into such choke-artists.

Now, go prove me wrong, Hawks. I dare you.

When you figure out what's actually being argued, come back and join the conversation. I've watched us the last three weeks, and it's been bad, but that's not what's being argued.

The fact that he says they "continually remind one another" tells me they have a strong natural bias towards the games in March, and that deep down, they don't really believe the November games carry equal weight. Otherwise, why "continually remind" each other? Do you have to be "continually reminded" that an apple drops to the ground when it falls from a tree?

And because you told them to prove you wrong, they won't. You don't tell them what to do!!!!...........

My god. Go look at the current 8-9 seeds and you'll see why we won't fall to the 8-9. It's not that hard. They have had worse seasons than us, while also not winning at the end of the year.
