Friday’s soccer state tournament nightcap featured an unstoppable force (Providence Academy sophomore Maddyn Greenway, 42 goals) facing an immovable object (Southwest Christian senior goaltender Saraphina Bettin with her 19-0-1 record and a paltry eight goals allowed) on the turf for the Class 1A state title game at U.S. Bank Stadium.
Score one for individual excellence, though not from the more household name you might expect. Freshman Blake Hudson scored on a Greenway assist in the 64th minute, elevating her program to its first state title. Hudson’s eighth goal scored this fall brought a 1-0 final score and became an instant historical moment in Lions program annals.
“It’s just so exciting,” Nelson said.
Lions coach Paul Cronin lauded Nelson’s technical skills and improved physicality.
For her part, Greenway can now add to her own list of impressive accomplishments: three basketball state titles, an individual track and field title in hurdles and now soccer.
“I’m so glad she is a part of our school,” Nelson said. “A lot of what their defense was doing left me open and Maddyn got me the ball.”
Stars senior Maya Johnson praised her team’s ability to limit Greenway’s scoring opportunities.
“Both teams had a chance to win, and I have to give credit for our back line for playing as well as they did,” Johnson said.

And she plays football?

Where are these teams from? If you post soccer stuff, and I think it is high school soccer, please tell us where these teams are from.

Minnesota. Greenway is the daughter of Chad Greenway and rated as the #18 basketball recruit in the nation. She currently has Iowa in her top 6 and she has said ever since she was young she wanted to go to Iowa.

Providense Academy in Minnesota is the high school Greenway attends. He said its the soccer state tournament playing against Southwest Academy. Both are private schools in Minnesota. Not sure what more your asking. It looks like all that info is there. And yes this should have been posted in the womens basketball forum...

42 goals?? On the season? Holy shit. That is incredible. Is it safe to assume she is being recruited to play soccer at Iowa? Sounds like she is pretty dominant. In case you haven’t noticed, Iowa has a pretty damn good soccer program.

Providence Academy, where she plays, is Minnesota version of Dowling playing 1A.

I was going to say this as well. Instead of Dowling I was going to say Dav. Assumption. Still crazy they have never won a state title in soccer.

Side note- they did play Dowling in hoops a few weeks back and Greenway dropped 30something on them.

She has almost 3k?? points in basketball since she got to play as an 8th grader.

Chad said on a podcast that his younger daughter Beckett is probably the best athlete of all his kids. Beckett plays on the same HS bball team as Madden since middle schoolers are allowed to play on HS teams in MN.
