The owner is now denying that it was their bouncer. That was not a pulled punch....

A man died more than a week after being punched by a bouncer outside of a Philadelphia nightclub, investigators said.

The ordeal occurred outside the Tabu Lounge & Sports Bar on the 200 block of South 12th Street shortly before 1 a.m. on April 16. Police said a bouncer at the club brought an intoxicated 41-year-old man outside and punched him in the face. They have not yet revealed what led to the punch.

Sources told NBC10 the man fell to the ground after being punched and was unconscious. He was taken to Jefferson Hospital where he was placed in the intensive care unit. On Sunday, he died from his injuries. Officials have not yet revealed his identity.

No charges have been filed. Both police and Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner are investigating.

"Violence is unacceptable," Krasner said. "It is stunning to think of someone whose job it is to try and prevent unsafe situations causing severe injuries or in this case even causing death."

Sources told NBC10 investigators are still waiting for additional evidence before determining whether or not charges will be filed.

"We look at these situations very, very carefully to make sure that we are not excessively and unfairly using our power," Krasner said. "And we will do that with this case as we would for any other homicide case especially one that has this peculiar aspect of it which is a punch that results in death."

Punch looked eerily similar to this:

When I worked in the bars, bouncers were never allowed to throw punches. It was their job to de-escalate a situation. If it needed to get physical, they were to restrain them, and remove from the building asap. Hiring the typical meathead bouncers is asking for a lawsuit.

Looks like manslaughter to me. Drunk guy was obviously really out of it -- not just dancing like I originally thought -- and that was an overly aggressive response from bouncer. Did he mean to kill him? Very doubtful.

Watching that carefully, it does appear that the bouncer who escorted him out the door was standing on the sidewalk while a third guy ran from behind him and clocked the customer.

The third guy does sort of look like "Security," however. He should be identifiable with a little research by the police.

Correct. It definitely wasn’t the same guy who escorted him out that punched him.

Looked like dancing to me. He was probably being a jackass, but even if he was, he didn’t deserve to punched like that.

That bouncer is going to have a hard time winning that one I gotta think. The drunk didn't try to come back in the establishment and he didn't throw a punch.
Looks like he was dancing. Wondering if he was taunting the bouncer(s)? Either way guy came out and hit him on a public sidewalk. Not sure if it was another bouncer or not, but it's not going to end well. Manslaughter seems appropriate. Murder 2 involves fulling understanding your actions will result in someone's death.

I've been thinking he was tremendously drunk and having a hard time keeping his balance. The punch doesn't look so bad if he was dancing around after getting kicked out. (and acted as though he was headed back in)

The bouncer is paid to do just the opposite of that. Unfortunately “tough guys” use these positions to get their rocks off busting some heads. This guy should go to prison if the video holds up.

Yeah, that guy is going to jail. The deceased was no threat to him.
