Very surprised Iowa moved up after Kennesaw game. NET is a much bigger fan of Iowa this year. Or better phrased, a big fan of our much improved NCSOS.
Yeah, I thought we would drop a few spots.

Good grief; Northwestern dropped 40 spots in one day!

I updated the orig post with this:

Has anyone found downloadable (ideally excel -- .txt, .csv, etc.) NET information? It appears they're only posting pdf of the team sheets on the archive site this year.

Can someone explain why Penn St. has a Net Ranking of 16? Home game wins against Maryland Eastern Shore, Wagner, Bucknell, Yale, Wake Forest, Maryland, Alabama, Central Connecticut State, and Cornell, they beat Georgetown at Georgetown in the Gavitt Tipoff game, Lost to Ole Miss and beat Syracuse on a neutral court in New York, and lost by 32 to Ohio St in Columbus.
Is that schedule really that much better then Iowa's with their Net Ranking of 25?

I think I read that San Diego St., with the exception of their upcoming game at Utah St., will be favored in the rest of their contests this season.

Iowa state has moved into a solid Quad 1 win for us at #59. Unless they collapse they shouldn’t have too much trouble staying in that Quad 1 win range of 70 or better. ISU has moved from #82 to #59 while playing one game against Fort Wayne. The NET can be very volatile this time of year.

If the NET hasn't been tweaked, a reverse-engineering type look last year by Sports Illustrated credited raw victory margins (apparently regardless of opponent) with juicing the NET.

Penn State has 7 20+ wins, 4 25+ and 2 30+. Iowa has 4 20+, 3 25+ and 1 30+.

Maybe...
thanks for the link:

When it comes to scheduling, the elimination of the RPI’s punishment for playing cupcakes and this reward for net efficiency could result in teams scheduling efficiency-boosting bottom feeders in nonconference play. (And with the NET’s adjusted winning percentage giving road wins more than twice the value of home wins, might a bubble-conscious team dare to kill two birds with one stone and hunt for a blowout road win? If it gets an ACC team in a MAAC gym, count me in.)

I hope the bolded sentence isn't accurate but Penn St.'s NET ranking (along with other examples in the article) have me liking NET a little less.

Also could explain why IA went up after blowing out Kennesaw St.

To be fair, Iowa blew out Kennesaw St. by 12 more than we were supposed to, per vegas... we deserved to creep up.

The issue as I see it is that getting Quad 4 win versus a really bad team (Kennesaw St.) might be better for a team's NET ranking (due to the offensive efficiency metric) than getting a Quad 2 against a much better opponent ( where presumably Iowa would have a lower offensive efficiency).

Welp..........

It would be really interesting to know how the NET would be if ISU had hit a heave at the buzzer for a 1 point win. Doesn't really change the performance, but I expect the impact to the NET ranking would be significantly different.

8-5 Wisconsin is up to 27 in the Net Rankings and UNI dropped 44 spots to 66 after there loss. Things change fast this time of year.
So far for Iowa there has been mostly good movement in their NET ranking.

Today, Jan 2, Iowa is #23.

Last season, Iowa got as low as #22 on two separate occasions: Jan 23 and Feb 2.

As you can see, TWELVE B1G teams are in the Top 51 of the NET rankings.

Unlike other predictive metrics the NET uses only data from this season. There are still too few data points to get overly worried about it.

I also believe the margin of victory effect is capped at 10 per game.

Remember, we are now half way thru the reg season (15 of 31 games) and have just one bad loss.

A lot of teams out there have at least one bad loss. Even Duke!

Until CJ gets to where he can play again, and until we can get more point production from Cordell and Bakari, then maybe we can get our offense flowing again like it was when we had success. I know Bakari is able to, since he had 15 pts vs Cincy. He has scored 3 points since that game. Guys need to step up coming off the bench. I hate to beat this dead horse, but for gosh sake, if the 3's aren't falling, then make some adjustments. When Garza gets double and triple teamed in the post, then kick it out fast to the guards. But when our jumpers aren't falling it doesn't help.
