Well this is absolutely horrifying. Likely a severe mental illness at work.

MARION, Iowa (KCRG) - A Marion dad admitted to police he strangled and killed his 5-year-old son.

A criminal complaint claims 45-year-old Matthew Schleier planned for a week to kill his son.

Schleier is charged with First Degree Murder and is being held on a $1 million cash-only bond. He faces a preliminary hearing on November 8th.

According to the criminal complaint, Marion Police officers were called to a home in the 4100-block of Willowbrook Drive at 5:57 a.m. Tuesday for a report of a 5-year-old boy who was not breathing.

At the scene, paramedics asked the mother how she found the child, who is only identified as “J.S.” The mother told paramedics “his dad strangled him.” An officer with the Marion Police Department asked Matthew Schleier if that was true and he admitted to strangling his son.

Paramedics tried saving the boy at the scene. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Medical personnel noted bruising to the child’s neck that appeared consistent with strangulation.

During a post-Miranda interview with investigators, Schleier admitted to strangling his son. He also said he had been up most of the night trying to decide how he was going to kill his son and that he had thoughts of killing the boy for the last week. He also admitted that he had thoughts about using knives to kill his son.

According to the complaint, while executing a search warrant, investigators collected evidence, including knives, indicating Schleier was premeditating his actions.

Wish he would have taken himself out

He's admitted guilt. I so no reason we cant just take him out in the back 40, pour gasoline down his throat and light him on fire.

He deserves to die in the most painful way possible. As soon as possible. No reason to waste taxpayer dollars.

Can you even imagine the evil it takes to do this to a child let alone your child?

I'm not pro death penalty per se Gus, and you and I rarely agree.....but I could look the other way with what you propose

I'm not usually pro death penalty either. I think of this as more of a “pro rapid and efficient administration of justice”

Hence, I wished he took himself out
Nah. That wouldnt have caused his due suffering.

He choked his kid to death. Had every opportunity to stop and kept going. This isnt a snapped thing. It probably took the child over a minute to die. F the suicide escape. I hate to be a vengeance kinda guy but on this I am. His act not only killed his son but probably messed up 20 others along the way. EMS. Medical personnel that attempted to resuscitate him. Police. Horrific.

General pop will take care of this guy over a period of time that will make it cruel and unusual punishment. You know, the kind that the government isn’t allowed to inflict on its citizens. He won’t last a year if in general. Good riddance.

I became acquainted with him through working with his company, United Fire Group. He was high up at UFG. I've had dinner with him a couple of times in a group setting, and he was always very friendly and professional and had no inclination that a screw was loose in his head.

I am digusted and at a loss for words. This is very shocking to say the least.
