Mark Gronowski is already throwing. Hopes to be 100% by June 1 (recovery is ahead of schedule)

Idk why but it bothers me more than it should when "reporters" don't double check things before snap posting them. Hey may? Come on Eliot.

I get the feeling Ferentz wants Kueter to stick with wrestling another year. I think that might be the right move. Put on another 10 lbs. Try to win it all in 2025-2026 wrestling season, then put on another 5-10 lbs., return to Iowa Football late spring of 2026 with 15-20 more lbs. and make the permanent move to defensive end.

10lbs isn't going to win him a ship in wrestling. Bro needs to put on another 30 lbs this year.

Possible scenario. Still, there is no replacing lost practice reps and game experience. With the DE talent on the roster now, If he loses two complete years of football IMO there’s very slim chance of getting on the field right away ….….especially at a new position….. maybe a series or two in blowout games.

He needs to move to football now. With another 10 he is not going to win it all. Just too big of a gap. Realistically he needs to be on the football field.

I get the feeling Kirk has moved on from Kueter altogether.

So allowing him to hold a football was deemed to risky?
Yes. Depending on where he is post-op exactly that football could easily cause activation with the humerus rotated in just a way to damage the tissue. So by removing the ball it's eliminating any extra possible force across smaller muscles that are required for three-dimensional dynamic stability of the arm in the socket while holding the ball. Amongst some other things... hard to say without knowing the exact surgery and previous injury.

Even the arms pressed on both sides of the ball is enough force that if done too early, could cause micro-tearing, an actual tear (muscle or connective tissue depending on the exact surgery), or potentially reduce optimal stability long-term of the humeral head in the socket. Maybe not holding standing still but running while holding like in the picture.

Edit: don't misconstrue that precaution as any prognostication on the time to return nor what level he'll return at. Very generally speaking, based on the circumstances, speculating the type of surgery, & speculation based on factors like, him playing football with the injury before surgery, his surgery has about as high of a success rate of any intra-articular or articular shoulder surgery for a QB. I felt certain KF was being conservative with his stated timeline back in January only because of the situation with Cade. So looks to be right on track.

Right. So he might be "on track", but he's probably still at least several months away from being able to throw at full strength.
