Reminds me of Purdue a few years ago. They were expecting a turnaround season and it was derailed with just a ridiculous amount of injuries to key positions.

It may have happened to one of them as well, but a couple posts down Mepo put a link to the one I was thinking of and it happens to have been... Maryland again haha. Had to start a freshman linebacker at qb.
