Match Video: Alex Thomsen vs Michael Millage

Below is the link to the video that has high school wrestling fans talking this weekend. There was a questionable takedown call for Thomsen, but to Alex's credit he fought off a lot of really good shots by Millage.

I also know that Millage and Iowa have kicked the tires, but since Millage is only a junior it's still early in the process.

So it wasn't just Oklahoma that had questionable officials this weekend.

There did not seem to be any change to justify the 2. Thomsen even looked a little surprised. No stall call in the 3rd? Hopefully just an off day for the ref. I guess that happens to everybody.

Does anyone know if Michael Millage is related to Jerry Millage who wrestled for Muscatine back in the late 50's / early 60's? Maybe grandson?

And while we're at ... why the transfer from Cresco?

It apparently happened to several officials at that tourney.

Those scramble positions can be hard for D1 officials to call. I thought it was the wrong call, but can't imagine a weekend warrior local high school ref being able to make these types of calls.

Has Thomsen stalled in progression. I was expecting more from Alex I guess against Millage.

Considering the way Jrent destroyed Millage at conflict.

I wasn't sure watching it live but I think the ref was correct here. Would have taken a really quick 2 count to get Lara the 2 backs he needed. Geerts controlled the match outside of that move. I've seen both matches they have wrestled this year--really fun stuff between future teammates.

Definitely would have been controversial had he awarded the 2 NF for Lara. I think my biggest gripe with that ref was not awarding Geerts the takedown when he locked up his cradle. He awarded it after Geerts tried to roll Lara through, so there wasn't really a change in control from locking it up to after the roll through, but it's not that egregious.

You might not be old enough to remember a guy named Arlo Fleege. The definition of a ref that hung around 2 decades too long.

Arlo...smh. There is a guy who had favorites. I wasn't one of them! That guy should've retired in the 80s. Lol

Bill Roth was my favorite ref. He just wanted 100% effort no matter your talent level in HS or college. Plus they guy could sing the anthem without warning

Watch some of the 80s hawkeye matches w him. Always telling people to wrestle. Wasn't afraid to call stalling 2 or 3 times in a period

Bill was the man. Mike Allen, too.
