Super kid. Definitely a gamer. Rises to the occasion and makes plays when we need them. Seems like a very strong leader who gets along great with his teammates, too.
This team seems to have a whole lot of Vandeberg-type guys, up and down the lineup and on both sides of the ball. Lots of good kids who have each other's backs. Man, is that fun to watch. Makes you extra proud to be a Hawkeye.

When he was asked what was the biggest change this year from last year he said leadership and specifically cited CJ as the reason.

I'd like to see what he can do when he gets a little space to work with. He showed some good speed on that screen pass and hopefully the staff can keep finding ways to move him around and set him up to get to spots on the field where he can get to that second gear rather than just making great catches in traffic.
I know CJ has some health issues BUT I sure would like to see him on the field with Jerminic and Tevaun at the same time. The two of those I think would open up more opportunities for Matt. He reminds me quite a bit of the pesky possession receivers you always see in the slot making the big first down plays. Great hands and smart young man.
I have to be honest and don't remember when he came BUT my gosh....160 lbs!!! Then Doyle took over.....

Right, He was a poster child for everything wrong with Iowa and how stupid KF is.
Thanks a lot for the link. Extremely impressive interview. This kid obviously has his head on straight. Very well-spoken, to say the least.
At one time, he was the reported as the fastest wide out and considered a freak athlete. But yeah, possession receiver, good hands, smart player, might as well throw in "plays with heart".
I think he is one of the BEST stories of the year, and not many are talking about it. Lots of chain moving 3rd down catches. Runs great routes, catches the ball very well, blocks downfield, and goes about his business without showing off etc. Love the guy and hope we keep throwing to him 6-7 times a game. Another recruiting gem!
