Another miss for Fran
Same for me. If my son is a good student and develops into a highly recruited athlete, I would counsel him to accept the scholarship offer from Princeton, Stanford, Harvard, or other elite academic institution. Graduate. Set for life.Honestly if I had a kid that was a good athlete and a good enough student to go to Stanford... I'd tell him to go to Stanford. Can't get bent out of shape about this one.

...… chances are currently low that I will be having that conversation .….I am glad that I established a 529 fund when he was 3 years old
Maybe he can one day tackle someone from across the court in an attempt to get in the paper though! Aim high!
My wife and I got a good laugh out of that one. I lettered in basketball at McKinley Junior High in CR and was the 6th man on the team and we were undefeated!! My father was a long time H.S. basketball coach in Iowa. I didn't really become a basketball whiz until I was teaching at Lincoln H.S. in Des Moines and became a minor star in the YMCA skins and shirts 3:30 pm league. (humor)
I met Fran twice briefly and didn't think he had any social charm. Met Brad Banks at the golf course and met Kirk at a Big Ten luncheon, and met Chuck Long in West Des Moines and they all were 5 Star ***** gentlemen - Hawkeyes.
That being said, I think Fran and THIS team will be awesome - both the veterans and the newcomers. GO HAWKS -
If you want a real laugh you should search around the guy I replied to's (nu2u) message history. I was referencing a story of his.
Also that's a great story! And I too like Fran and the entire Iowa program all around. Barta is a little slow and VERY frustrating at times, but we've got great people who are the face of all of our programs and our athletes/students are almost exclusively stand up human beings.
Maybe so, but don't let her play in the band......As a parent, this is a really easy choice.
Multi generational U of I grad family. Including a daughter recently. We love the U of I.
If she would have been athletically elite and Stanford was offering a free ride you can bet I'd have done everything I could to get her to go there.
