McConnell Retiring...

He was always a scum bag, but his career was quite successful. He was a skilled leader in the Senate.
His tombstone will read that he fudged up and triangulated a little too hard when he let Trump off the hook. Mitch gave us Trump 2.0

SOTE.

If he had any sense of decency he'd hobble away now.
The following persons would like a word:
-the Ghost of Robert Byrd
-the Ghost of Strom Thurmond
-the Ghost of Diane Feinstein
-the Ghost of Chuck Grassley

Edit - I took a peek at a list of oldest members of congress, and frankly, was a little surprised that McConnell was only 80, and fourth oldest on the senate side. Also surprised that on the whole, D's actually skew older than R's by a bit in terms of average age, with 13/20 oldest members. Actually only about 5% are octogenarian, which is not what you might expect given the public noise.

Yep, if the Dumpster keeps screwing things up which is likely then a lot of voters will go Dem, Beshear could do that but he might be Prez material. Maybe staying Gov is better.
not sure if he's eligible to run again or if he's term limited. either way, i saw a note that in 3/24 he'd previously said he was not likely to run for the senate seat, so as you say, maybe he's thinking higher.

Dan Cameron (former R AA AG and who Brashear beat) didn't waste any time announcing.

Would appreciate it if someone sends this to Grassley's handlers to show it can be done. GIVE IT UP CHUCK.
Agree.
Still can't understand why Grasey sticks around.
He's not passing Robery Bryd in longevity and there's little danger of Republicans losing his seat in Mississippi North.

Baffles me why he sticks around.

Meanwhile, in MN, Lt. Governor Peggy Flanagan has announced her candidacy for Tina Smith's seat, noting that "In Ojibwe, my name means 'speaks in a loud and clear voice woman'".

Who knew?! I just figured it was Irish.

Win some, lose some I guess.

Agree. Beshear is very popular but he might be thinking bigger fish for 2028?

I don't think Beshear would win. Occasionally a red state will elect and re-elect a moderate dem as governor but it seems like whenever they try to make the transition to the senate they always lose.

That said if Beshear did have ambitions towards the WH in 2028 he would need to be doing something in the meantime to keep himself in the news. Although if he did win senate and then won the presidency he'd have to surrender a senate seat back to the Republicans in Kentucky afterwards.
