I don’t trust McConnell at all on this. If they had the votes they wouldn’t come out and say it out of the fear that a huge backlash would scare the moderates like what happened during the Kavanaugh hearings.
The actual question to be asking is: "Why does he want to block witnesses in the first place?"

Dems and independents should look at anything McConnell says the same way Americans should believe anything Mr. Putin says. (Nat and roy excepted.)
You people are funny. I know witnesses means it’s not over yet. And you have some hope that trump actually be ousted. He won’t be. What this will do is ensure Biden is not the democratic primary nominee.

If he did something illegal, then he shouldn’t be the nominee.

That’s the purpose of this process. Find out the truth and make people accountable. Not hiding the truth so your “team” wins.
I imagine Trump will rage at his emotional support rally tonight, and on twitter that Mitch can just block all witnesses, and he’s a Never Trumper if he allows a vote on witnesses.

One of two things is going on...
1) He’s trying to fire up the base and the right wing poutrage machine to put pressure on the fence-sitters.
OR
2) McConnell is looking at the numbers, ESPECIALLY from independents, and is attempting to save some face.
This is a calculated move by the GOP. The truth is going to come out...that's inevitable. The Senate will vote to acquit - also inevitable. Given the choice, they would MUCH rather vote to acquit based on partial knowledge and take the hit for refusing to allow witnesses rather than having Trump's acts laid bare and taking the hit for simply turning away. They have no good options so they're fighting for what they think is the least bad one.
Anyone who doesn't want witnesses called absolutely does not believe in the rule of law.
I find myself asking, what the heck kind of trial doesn't have any witnesses.
One in which the goal is to not find the truth.

The fact remains, VP Joe was telling others that he was delivering official government policy as well as a message from the World Bank and the EU....There was no personal gain from him delivering this message to Ukraine....That is where Trump crossed the line.....he wanted Ukraine to investigate Biden because Biden was/is going to run against him for POTUS in the Fall.....He wanted a "personal gain" from his withholding of approved funds....Joe was acting on behalf of the US Government...Is it really that difficult to see the difference?

yep. And the republicans can call Obama, Comey, Schiff etc....the scope of this one can be pretty expansive. It’s just a dirt throwing exercise. Most people are not paying close attention. A good chunk of the country thinks trump is already not the president because he was “impeached.”
Of course, we all know the exact reason why he doesn't want them. It's because everything in the Bolton book is accurate and that is exactly what he would say if brought to the floor. As well as everyone else in the administration. Rather than having these people be forced to commit easily proven perjury it is better to just have them not testify at all.
‘Called’ implies by subpoena. Rather he was deliberately invited by the House. They should have called him and forced it to the Judiciary to resolve. While not likely, SCOTUS may have declined the case letting the subpoena stand. I would have enjoyed having SCOTUS clarify the validity of the initial subpoenas and Executive Privilege, if claimed. My gut says the House would have won on the latter.
