McMurdo Station is a U.S. research facility located on Ross Island, Antarctica, operated by the National Science Foundation. It serves as the largest Antarctic station, supporting a population of up to 1,000 people during the summer months. The climate is harsh and polar, with temperatures ranging from -58°F to 46°F (-50°C to 8°C), strong winds, and extended periods of darkness in winter. The station has limited internet access, no cell phone service, and relies on satellite communications. Travel is highly restricted, with access primarily by military aircraft from New Zealand, and no commercial flights or alternative transportation options.

I spend 48 hours in Nome, AK, so no. 1 mile of a paved road. No roads in, no roads out. Dirt, mud roads everywhere else. 1 barge every summer brings their supplies. Need something else, better hope you can ship it in via USPS as there is no Fed Ex or UPS. Nome has 2 flights in and out each day. Extremely depressing place.

Let’s be honest: it comes down to whether there are frisky chicks and a good internet connection. And not necessarily in that order.

Under this administration? F**k no. President Musk could decide tomorrow that we are no longer going to support McMurdo Research station and immediately cut funding. He won't bother to arrange for your return home either so you'd just be screwed. That's what he did for USAID workers, no reason to believe he wouldn't leave you to die in Antarctica.
