McShay has Jackson as top 3 corner in draft

20. Is there a No. 1 cornerback in this draft who could start right away, like Marshon Lattimore and Tre'Davious White?
Kiper: There's no Lattimore, who had a high grade all year, lit up the combine with a 4.36 40 and 38½-inch vertical and went No. 11 overall. But there are three really good corners in my top 25. Denzel Ward, Lattimore's former teammate at Ohio State, is polished and has good instincts. Colorado's Isaiah Oliver, a bigger defender with return ability, and Iowa's Joshua Jackson, a ballhawk who had three picks in the Hawkeyes' win over Ohio State, are right there, as well.

Saw on ESPN today that he is #20 overall on McShay's big board. Don't think he's coming back, fellas.

After King’s draft stock dropped so much between 2015 and 2016 (2017 Draft); I think he should go. He would be a fool not to go. I would love for him to stay but a first round draft pick means a lot for Hawkeye pride and will help with recruiting.
Again, we have no idea where Desmond would have went after his Jr. year. Very few, if anyone that I know of, had him as a first round pick. Most everything I saw had him in the 2-3 round range, which is very similar to where he was projected entering last years draft. We all know what happened. Hint: just because Walterfootball/CBS projections have them that high, doesn't mean that is where scouts/NFL front offices have them.

Desmond was told to come back and work on some things after his Jr. year. It's hard to say he got any worse, just didn't really improve things like speed, size, and man-coverage. I will say that his senior bowl performance didn't help him and it's unknown if that type of exposure lowered him a round or two. Luckily, he seems to be proving a lot of GMs/scouts wrong.

The money will be there whatever he decides, but he will have only one more chance to help lead Iowa to a B1G Championship. I think JJ is the best CB in CFB right now, but it's not like he's reached the pinnacle of what he can be. I hope he chooses to return, but I understand if he doesn't.

Again he was 4th string last year, thinking the coaches are not always playing the best guys. F. Ekakitie & A. Gair are a good example of this.
If jackson wins the thorpe this year it will be a shame that he only got to start for 1 season just like the 2 above.
He was playing behind two guys currently in the NFL. By all accounts, Josh made huge strides over the spring/summer. Hell, nobody here was talking about him preseason, was all about Manny.

I think Josh started out as a WR and then switched to a DB? In any event I hope Josh stays for his senior year but I know the chance to get some big money is hard to ignore.

With regards to him leaving, I am of the opinion that he got the training he needed for the career of his choice, which is exactly what you do in college. Hope he makes the decision to finish his degree as well for his further benefit.

If he decides he needs to come back and further sharpen those skills, we’ll welcome you with open arms! I think he or his parents could take out an insurance policy on his health, which would probably be advisable, though I’m no expert.

Nah, that makes too much sense. He should have been playing in front of two guys on NFL rosters because reasons. Christ.

Josh was a stud on the field this year, even most on this board can agree on that. I choose to think he helped this team in the future as well. You just have to think his performance helped the DB recruiting before and after scholarship offers.

Josh will be missed.

Josh is not a finalist for the Thorpe. Was not even listed as a semi-finalist, which is ridiculous.

Any proof he was better than King, Mabin, Rugumba, or Ojemudia prior this year? Or are you just a KF hater troll that thinks coaches don’t care about winning therefore don’t play the best players. Coaches sometimes don’t know what they have in a player because said player isn’t a good practice player. Or he improved a lot and others didn’t. If you’ve ever coached you would know this.

Jees.... He was not fourth string. He may have been the 4th CB. You realize we play 2 CB's at the same time, correct? And of course the two starters are playing in the league as rookies, so there's that.....

First off I am not a kf hater. Coaches do care about winning, but somtimes can be slow to make changes because it would mean admitting making a mistake in the first place. If you believe it or not there is a union card culture there that needs to change, Oh & I actually do coach, The whole practice player thing is b.s.

If Josh is a 1st or 2nd rounder, I really hope he takes the money. It's just not worth the risk to come back if you're a top a pick.

ok.....they would bring in manny & oj b4 jackson a lot of the time so that would make him 5th then.
And Jackson played quite a bit as a freshman as I recall. I see no reason not to trust that PP is playing the right guys. Countless lightly recruited DB's in his tenure with very solid careers as Hawks and playing in the league.

He was 4th string??? I don't even think we had 8 available corners last year, so he couldn't have been 4th string. He was 2nd string right corner and was the starting nickel back most of the year, but he was skinny and not very good in run support, so they went with Rugamba instead of him. You do realize that he made a huge leap from last year to this fall, don't you? A lot of players do.

How is Ekakitie an example? He got destroyed most of his JR yr., made a big jump and played in a 3 man rotation in the middle his SR yr. He still wasn't better than a healthy Bazata and Johnson. I/we have no idea what Gair's story was. We don't even know why he changed his name from when he was recruited, lol. Why he wasn't playing and all of a sudden showed up and was serviceable (he was no superstar) but I would guess that he wasn't getting in done in practice. You folks crack me up when you talk about how someone who hasn't played for a year or two but suddenly comes on and plays well, he should have been playing for the last year or two, LOL. You do realize that sometimes 19 yr. old kids don't work very hard and then decide to work and get better, or a 'lightbulb' finally comes on for them with the scheme and/or their reads. There are a lot of other reasons certain kids may not see the field, but they are internal issues and we'll never know about it.

If Jackson is going to be a first round pick, thank you and congrats.
On your way out of Iowa City, can you remind all the DB recruits that Iowa takes underrated players, coaches them up and sends them to NFL, not just a pit stop for 5* recruits.

When asked by a friend of one of my employees if he was coming back, JJ responded “Fug no” and referenced Desmond King. Selfishly I wish he was coming back but his stock will never be higher.

The two starters ahead of him are playing in the NFL as rookies, he played significant snaps in a RB season, last year, and even more this year. He was a 4.9 guy in HS that had to grow into his body. Coaches did an outstanding job projecting and development. But that takes a bit of analytic ability to piece together. Ridiculing them on this is revealing for all that do.

Yeah, that sounds like language JJ uses. I think he’ll go, but he is articulate, devout Christian, great student. Maybe he did say that, but I’m thinking it’s BS. Iowa could not have a better representative for their program.

Again, you don't have a clue of what you are talking about.

The light goes on for some of these guys at different points in their college careers. Jackson always had the athletic ability, but there is more to the game than just raw athletic ability.

Pat Angerer is a pretty good example of a player that blossomed late. Just because he was awesome once he fully developed, doesn't mean he deserved to start before he had earned it.

Sigh...this gets so old! How many guys have to leave and NOT be the player the fans said he was until we quit having this stupidity?! Derrick Willies says high....

Hell Gair did start at a times and people complained about him too, it's just dumb!

Anyone with any fb iQ could clearly see a upgrade when gair was in the game, also since u bring up willies if you can't see that he is physically better than any wr iowa had on the roster you sir

Good to know & my bad for missing it. I had kind of tuned out the awards this year thinking that Josh & Josey we’re getting snubbed all over the place. Happy to be wrong and I think he has a shot given the exposure he got in the OSU & Wisconsin games.

Someone posted on here about that. The organization that chooses the Thorpe winner said it wouldn't be unprecedented to put someone in who was not in the semifinalist group.
