I thought this team could be good. I even posed the question if they could do better than last year. The bottom line is Fran still doesn’t have a point guard and his teams don’t defend. You’re not going to win with any sort of consistency that way.
His lineups and favoritism are also head scratching. JBo should be benched, Connor should be getting Austin Ash minutes, Ulis should be playing over JT, and Kris should be starting over PMac. This shit is so obvious.
As much as we malign Kirk for being stubborn, Fran is worse. Kirk also understands good defense and being fundamentally sound wins more games than not, which is why he’s won things of consequence and Fran has not.
Kirk adapts, Fran doesn't.
Players are not the problem. Effort is the problem. The talent is there, Fran just lets them get by playing without max effort. Isu’s talent isn’t as good as ours, but apparently they want to win and they play hard.
I agree. Fran sucks. He can’t recruit and his teams will always be trash at defense. The fact he still can’t find a decent point guard is mind boggling.
Well, Fran gets thrown out of fewer games now. He’s made that adjustment at least…
Most of this is my beef. I am so frustrated because I was excited to watch this teams athleticism. We are just not what I hoped so far. I figured we would go 1-3 in this stretch but I thought we would lose to Virginia and beat Iowa St.
No team will ever be good if they can't rebound. I don't understand why they are always so bad at it and nobody ever boxes anyone out. Actually, I know why, I just don't know why this is still a thing after 10 years or whatever of getting beat because of it.
You can't argue with his records. He ain't Aston Martin but he's dependable. Also, he doesn't embarrass himself against ISU.

Talent is NOT there. We're slow, semi athletic at half the spots on the floor. Settle for 3's by 6'9" guys and then play chase the ball, Tom Davis defense. Don't seem to actually run any plays just rec league offense if you ask me. I don't even get excited about BB anymore...
Iowa doesn’t have a point guard and never has under Fran. That’s significant.
I don’t see the talent discrepancy you do. If anything, Iowa State has more talent when you look at weak links like Connor, JT, and JBo most games. The difference is coaching, defense, and point guard play.
Regardless, it’s a waste of time to talk about. Fran is who he is and won’t change. I really enjoy watching Keagan play, but not enough to continue to watch Fran play the same bullshit lineups with the same garbage defense. It’s a joke.
Fran should be fired after this season.

Yep. They have been at their best this year when they’re behind, playing a hectic press d and getting turnovers. They need to play that way all the time. But they won’t, because Fran doesn’t demand it

KF only played one son at a time out of 22 players, so not quite the impact. Plus to be fair they were okay offensive linemen and there really are no stats on OL play.
PMAC is a P5 player--but as a backup because of his poor defense and poor rebounding. CMAC is obviously a smart player and knows the game, but if you can't shoot the rock, you aren't a P5 player.
Fran's love of hiding soft defensive players in a zone defense has never worked...but with 3pt shooters of today's game, you just can't stay in zone very long and it is only a small part time defense. Fran has always made it the main course.
This team can be streaky with 3pt shooting....they probably can win 8 or 9 B1G games. That will get them NIT bid.
If they win 8 games in the conference, that will exceed my most optimistic prognosis of what’s possible.

I did like the chemistry of both Murrays and they had probably their most horrific shooting games possible. I don't think their is an answer for lack of rebounding other than going with more joshO at center and pull PMAC out of starting lineup. The problems of Iowa run pretty deep....this is not a good 3pt shooting team and they have no low post scorer. Rebraca is not a low post guy...dissappointing.

Kirk adapts? 😂 That's hilarious. It took like 15 seasons to come up with the cash position and his offense has been maybe the least adaptive in FBS since the turn of the century. He just knows shit offense and solid to great defense works in the big ten west and has been lucky enough to play there

Would be interesting to see if there is pressure to change up the coaching staff ... at the top or the assistant level. I am sure this season will be allowed to play out, but what happens in reaction will be interesting. It doesn't seem that Fran is interested in changing (so far), but sometimes that is forced upon a coach. Not sure there Iowa has an AD that is willing to do that.

Fran needs to go. We had two NBA players, one of which was NPOTY and he couldn't turn that into any sort of a recruiting bump. Absolutely pathetic.
None of that has anything to do with being adaptable. Who do you think has been holding back the offense through 3 different OCs?
Before the year I thought this could win 16 games over all and thought nit team I guess I'm wrong again.
