Mediocre Mike

Mission accomplished:

Resign as Head Coach at Oregon State
Accept Head Coach position at Nebraska
Ruin Nebraska football program in 5 years or less
Return to Oregon State as Assistant Head Coach

Let's agree that Mike Riley completed his mission deftly and with great efficiency. Posing as an organizational genius with an undeserved reputation as a mediocre football coach, he wooed the Nebraska AD into handing him the reigns despite a dozen or so more qualified candidates. According to plan, he then proceeded to hire his long-time mediocre OSU assistants to help fulfill the mission. Let's not forget that they did their part too. Then, in a brilliant move which is obvious only in hindsight, in year three he hired Bob Diaco as DC to hasten the destruction while subjecting the hostage fans to humiliating home losses leaving the administration with no choice.

Mr. Riley was professional right to the end. He humbly accepts his termination and quietly leaves town with the program in shambles having personally raided the University coffers for nearly $10M. Well done sir, well done.

The OrSU head coach has never been a head coach before. Riley is surely being brought on to help Smith learn the ropes in his first year or two. I'd be surprised if Riley is there beyond 2 years. And he probably agreed to a very low salary since he is still getting paid by Nebraska.

Hmmmm - let me think.

Beautiful Corvallis Oregon (I used to live in Portland) ... Or Lincoln Nebraska. Tough choice - not.

And oh by the way Riley would not need to work - he's a Millionaire.

That is what you call hustlin backwards. Maybe made a little bit more money by going to Nebraska but now he is an assistant at a place he probably should have never left.

Hope that QB recruit Spencer Petras does not drink the Kool-Aid that their are fixing up at Oregon State. The new HC may have been a 4 year starter at QB and was a member of their last conference ( PAC 10) title 2000, but Oregon State is one of the worst P5 football programs in the 21 century.
