Menards accused of price gouging

On what item(s)? What location(s)?

I was in our local Menard's last night supporting our economy and saw nothing of note to that effect. I would think any sane business would be very careful not to do something like that at this time, lest they lose loyalty in the future.
Michigan has sent notice. Bleach, and other cleaning products. State Investigators found products up to twice as much as other big box retailers.

Some store managers dont think in those terms. Figure if they get caught they can just pay a fine and get buy with a weak ass apology. Which the past has shown they can.

Not on the topic of this thread, but how are you feeling TB? Do your health issues put you in a higher-risk category for Covid?

Greed. Watch...they will spin a tale of it being for the consumers own good that they spiked the price.

During the ammo shortage there was a sporting goods chain that allowed stores to spike their prices considerably above suggested retail. When I questioned an associate about this here is the prepared speech I was given.

"We didn't raise these prices for our benefit....we did it for the consumers benefit. If we can take away some of the profit of the people who are buying it to resell, we can actually have product there for our customers to buy."

One of those situations where there was a little truth in what they say but at the end of the day it was really motivated by them wanting to be the ones to be able to sell their product at an inflated high price even above the manufactures suggested retail price.

Have not done any business with that company since.

Probably, more from having medical care being swamped. My BMI is ok and dont have cardio issues. Weak immune system but not overly concerned. More worried about healthcare getting swamped then Cornavirus. People that might have normal hospitalizations from a car accident, appendix, babydelivery , or chemo. All become far more complicated and start to have lower positive outcomes.

That is a serious twisting of reality on that dude's part.

Dana Nessel, the AG in Michigan is on the job. She's interested in protecting the citizens of Michigan where her republican predecessors were interest in protecting business.

That said, I think she is fair. There was a local complaint that a party store was gouging milk when her office sent a rep there while the milk was cheaper at Costco it wasn't significantly higher than that in local grocery stores.

Shitty place that sells factory seconds. Too bad.
I have heard that before but what kind of factory produces seconds at a level to supply a major retailer ?

I can see them requiring less tolerances but I can’t see it actually being seconds. Which are basically mistakes.

So we're at the point of government price fixing? Tried that once and it didn't work. If stores had only raised the price of toilet paper, there might be some available to purchase

We get it. Capitalism blah blah blah. Can you just start your own thread on it to see if anybody wants to argue with you. Maybe you'd be forced to start a conversation with more than one sentence and no explanation.

I’d like everyone to think it through and not fall for righteous sounding legislation that in fact hurts them.

Menard's has always been an unethical, morally bankrupt company.

Here's a must-read: Slaves for Big Money at Menard's

I worked for them for 9 years, 3 years at the Eau Claire office. Still have some good friends up in EC. I texted and asked one of them this morning and asked if it was some rogue store managers or something and he gave me a non specific answer. he probably had some saying don't talk about it and direct everything to their PR team.

John Menard is a dick.

pretty much everything in that article as far as fines for managers (store and dept), and the whole thing about managers can't build new houses (something about they think there will be some side deals with contractors).

he has fired (and rehired) his brother numerous times over
A handful of years ago he fired the longtime merchandise manager for something ridiculous that I can't think of at the time.....I may have to ask my friend to remember those details...I just know it seemed silly when I heard about it.

I also think he got fined a few years ago for dumping in a river.

EDIT TO ADD: he also STRONGLY urged (as in, they were pretty much made to) his buyers and merchandisers to donate to republican political campaigns

just got back from a trip there. Holy hell it was packed. Like Christmas time packed. People circling to park. 5-6 deep in every checkout.

the good new was about 1/2 of the people were wearing masks, myself included.

I only purchase certain items there.
I would rather go to Spawn & Rose locally for my wood because it is a better grade & lasts longer.
If I buy wood at a big box I prefer Home Depot. They also give veterans a discount.
Unfortunately up at the summer home the closest is Menards so I do not buy wood as it is crap.

LOL...how? The consumer TP companies churn out TP to fill demand. Demand for consumer TP - as opposed to institutional TP - is up 40%. People are buying more because *gasp* they're using more. The manufacturers could't make enough to fill that demand at any price. They're just catching up - barely - now.

Sounds like a lot of idiots running around over there

Hmm…If they have a product more expensive than other places, I don’t buy it. They sell Herrs chips for less than $2 for a large bag, so I buy the heck out of them there. Other places sell full bags for over $5. So guess what, I buy some items from Menards and I buy some items other places. Am I missing something here?

This was during COVID. So there was panic buys often by the public. Evidently some stores in Michigan were accused of taking advantage of the situation.
