Mich vs PSU

And there's the tech for Nolf after nearly ripping Murphys arm off...

Nickal makes sure he gets his 2 as he takes out Mahomes. Tough guy, no prisoners.

I was going to post the exact same thing but decided not to as I figured it would invite the PSU trash. I was going to include the shove OOB as well with murphys leg on his shoulder.

Was going to be aimed at Foley and not Nolf so don't get all worked up trolls.
Foley prefers the action-packed, ethically above-board, drug free, and fairly-officiated spectacle that is World Freestyle wrestling.

Don't mind the Russian mafia influence permeating the whole sport.

The meat chickens took both Zain and Nolf down. And got their arms snapped off for their trouble.
Mahomes clubbed Nickal on the head and Bo snapped his leg in half. I'm guessing his season is done.

Jack Im sure he will be and I realize it's all a
Learning experience Myles will figure it all
Out As a parent It all reminds me of when he was a freshmen in high school I'm sure he disappointed but to me it's expected because I knew it would be some growing pains I would be curious to know however on how much they are watching film of their opponents before matches

Have you watched a freestyle match lately? New rules have resulted in a much better product, and made freestyle far more action packed than folkstyle. The rest of your points are valid.

Good, clean, hard-nosed wrestling whereas St. John was a scumbag. Just ask any PSU guy.

Amen, I said this exact same thing a few weeks ago watching Zain wrestle Tshirt. Zains a stud but good god its worse than DSJ did with Taylor and crickets from the PSU crowd now! LOL PSU fan only thinks it was worse with Taylor because Taylor needed contacts so it stopped the match. But it wasnt worse.

I agree with Gobblin, as much as I hate to admit it, I like to watch PSU wrestle. I certainly hate Cael and always will but I have no issue liking me some Nolf. Dude can wrestle and he gets it. I loved Nolfs suicide mission comments after the IMART match. Wish some of our guys had that type of balls. Sorenson im talking to you. your not going to beat Zain by slowing it down and controling the hand fighting for the whole 1st period. You need to go for broke and get a few takedowns in the 1st. You wont win going under Zain and you certainly wont win in OT rideouts.

Myles Martin or JoJo for that matter. Coach Smith is going to mad at himself when he burnt his sons RS year for a 4th place indiividual medal and 4th place team trophy.

Whats going to be interesting is who starts transfering out of Ohio St and PSU soon. They are overpromising starting spots and underdelivering to a few top notch kids. Seems a bit worse at Ohio State than PSU right now but Cael not goign to make everyone happy starting next season with spots. It will be interesting to see how a Cenzo for example fits in. At a certain point a kid wants to start regardless if he is saying the right things now. Just wait for it. You can talk kids into taking less and being a team atmosphere but when you dont get any playing time or you dont start. Thats another animal at some point.
Its a bit sad some kids dont see this coming. Like Haines for example has been had twice. But WTF did you think Haines when Snyder came in? That he wouldnt grow?

Half of its on the kids buying this recruiting BS, the other half is the Nick Saban accumalate all the 5 stars you can then send half of them packing the next season and reload more 5 stars. I just dont get how kids dont see this coming?

Half of Brands issue is he is to honest with these kids. Cael tells them what they need to hear. Brands tells them this place aint for everybody. He needs to stop that and start selling and asking for the elite kids business. He also needs to get out of the practice room more often and put himself on some doorsteps.

But then again were Iowa, they should want to come here and should thank us for being honest upfront. Boy I wish it was that simple.

I doubt Cael's conversation with recruits is all that different than Tom's. I would think most coaches will not "give" a recruit a starting position. Certainly a top 10 recruit will get every opportunity to win the job but even they can end up riding pine. a lot of people are speculating on Cenzo fitting in, I'm sure there were a lot of Iowa wrestlers in the Gable era that couldn't find a spot as a 4 year starter and stuck around. I would not hold it against a kid wanting to find a better opportunity and I've notice a high percentage of those who do transfer end up closer to home both because that means a probable lower tuition institution and closer to family for support.

If indeed Cenzo was unable to make the lineup I don't see him giving up the dream till his Jr year and I believe their coach would be more than willing to grant the release to open $ for the next class.

I believe Cenzo might end up starting at 65 next year and Nolf trying to stay at 57. Most of these guys are team guys when they can manage weight changes. There are others like Dirk Cowburn in Cael's first PSU recruiting class who love the school enough to give up the sport and focus on academics.

Next year, PSU will have eight very talented middle weights: Retherford, Manville, Cenzo, Nolf, Rasheed, Nickal, Hall and McCutcheon.

There are five weight classes between 149 and 184. (I counted twice to confirm.)

I assume Manville and Hall will red-shirt next year, but Cael sometimes lets true freshmen wrestle: e.g., Nico, Retherford and McIntosh. Assuming Manville and Hall red-shirt, that leaves six talented wrestlers for five spots. It's a good problem for Cael to have, but at least one good wrestler will be on the outside looking in.

In two years, after Manville and Hall come off their likely red-shirt, Cael will have eight talented guys (two seniors, two juniors, two sophomores, and two redshirt freshmen) gunning for five spots. His JV team will be the envy of most major programs, but there are going to be some awfully talented guys riding the pine.

FYI...both Manville and Hall are talking gray shirts next year, then possibly enrolling and going from there. I can see it because both love freestyle a lot. Rasheed is cutting a lot and they are talking 174 or 184 depending on Nickal. So next year could look like this:

149: Zain
157: Nolf
165: Cenzo
174:Nickal/Rasheed
184: Nickal/Rasheed

Could be the same the following year as well with the Neville bros at 197 and HWY

ihawkd9times,

I disagree with your assessment of Smith's decision. This year looks to be his best chance to win in 10 years. If Brock was healthy they could really be something, but you can't predict injuries. Also, Martinez and Nolf could be at 157 for most of JoJo's career. Marstellar simply wasn't cutting it(pun intended) and Smith has a history of pulling freshman out of redshirt and seeing them succeed. I am sure he was able to see what he wanted at the Scuffle and figured JoJo was ready. This is his last year with Dieringer, when you have a monster like that along with Heil and even Crutchmer(he still has a decent chance at 174) you pull all the stops. As far as 4th goes, I don't see it. I could see them in 3rd with Iowa and PSU ahead of them, but tOSU just doesn't look healthy, and I don't see them being so in March..........

I would be more inclined to believe Ryan's pulling Miles Martin out of redshirt and not talking Snyder out of trying to balance Olympic training, NCAA competition and academics was a mistake.

Trying to read all the tea leaves, I tend to agree with you that both Hall and Manville will grey shirt. Both seem to be embracing the idea and have signed their LOIs, so I would think PSU would be happy for them to have them defer a year. Still your scenario will leave one starter on the outside looking in (obviously not Nickal) unless either Rasheed or McCutcheon make the leap to 197. And McCutcheon is only a sophomore, so the grey shirts only delay the logjam for a year.

Still not sure where Manville fits in weight wise. At one time I thought 165, but now I think 149 is just as likely than 165.

The fact that MSU slid by a team that can't FIELD a full team, does not make me all warm and fuzzy. MSU has fallen so hard it is embarrassing. I feel really bad for Roger Wildmo. He was a legitimate stud coming out of High School. Damn near a can't miss. This is his Senior year and he can't even make their starting line-up. Regression is the standard there. As good a guy as Chandler is, keeping him on staff(let alone making him the HC), is simply going to drop MSU into a place they will never be able to come back from. Who would honestly want that job 5 years from now?????
