Can we steal one of their top assistants to replace one of our Assistant coaches??

Fran needs serious help in coaching defense and recruiting the type of guards you need in this conference.

I know people will ask why would they want to leave Michigan for Iowa, but you can throw more money and promise he could get a shot at head coach once Fran retires or is booted out.

Are you watching what they are doing to Minnesota? It looks like a repeat of last night. They are on a different level right now...up 26

Yes! And that’s why I want a Michigan assistant coach. MN is not a good team and this is their 3rd game!

Michigan plays fantastic defense, which we obviously need, but they will not blow out MSU tomorrow. They know how to play good defense and have a quick ass PG who can create plays too.

Luke Yaklich is a rising star. Beilein hired him 2 years ago to help with defense, and was actually deferring to him in one of the huddles during a timeout early in our game yesterday. UM defense has improved since hiring a young defensive minded coach. Perhaps we should take notes and give it a try?

EXACTLY!! I have no faith in any of our Assistant coaches. They are only good at sugar coating losses and struggles with “inspirational” quotes on Twitter though.

Fran and most coaches are loyal to a fault to their assistant coaches, it's one thing to demote them but firing them is something that takes a lot of balakas ,,,,and we all know how that story is going to end.
Looking back, Kirk has done this when needed, I'm trying to think of any other Iowa programs that made changes in staff......

Defense is defense. There are defensive principles that every coach can learn. It's not some magic formula. The key is to have the players with the physical abilities to properly employ them.

You definitely need players who can play great defense but you also need a defensive guru on the team who can “teach” fundamentals, positioning, blocking out, help defense, etc.

Wisconsin doesn't really have that much more for athletes than iowa year in and year out yet they seem to play darn good defense

Yaklich is going to be a head coach in Mens CBB. He 42 going on 43 and his resume shows he can also recruit. A guy to watch.

Yes and No. Wisconsin is not super athletic, but All the Wisconsin guys are at least passable athletes. Reauvers is >> athlete than Garza. Garza can try harder/smarter, but he's not ever going to be even decent defender in space.

JBo is small and the guys his size are usually elite athletes. Wisconsin's trice might not be elite athletically, but he is still much
quicker that Jbo.

Iowa can put out a lineup with Dailey, Moss, Connor, JoeW, Cook that has decent athleticism for defense, but that unit can't score very well with 2 guards shooting sub 20% from 3pt line.

Fran’s has had top 30ish rated defenses 3 times at Iowa. His biggest downfall isn’t coaching X’s and O’s, although one could argue his scheme should change when he doesn’t have the athletes so technically that is an X’s and O’s issue, it’s his failure to land players who can play man to man defense.
