Milroe, an NFL draft pick, lost the game for Alabama because he couldn't throw against the Michigan blitz. The Missouri QB had no such worries against Iowa. He just sat back in his Lazy Boy and tossed the ball around the field while four Iowa D-linemen danced around the line of scrimmage all game long.

Michigan was able to protect its lead and win the game because it sent pressure. And the Dback coming off the edge often arrived at the QB untouched, which can happen when there are more rushers than there are people to block them. So let's be honest: Phil Parker lost this game. Tim Lester lost this game. And Kirk Ferentz lost this game. Had they been coaching Michigan today, Michigan would have lost. IMHO, of course.

BTW: Anybody still want to claim Alabama (9-4) belonged in the CFP? LOL

Would you blitz with a god awful secondary and slow ass linebackers!
PP isn’t the genius Hawk fans think he is but dropping back 40 yds every snap is the best he can do with that slow, soft, no talent D. Maybe he should go recruit some talent and not slow little guys from Xavier and Sioux County.
Think this year was bad wait until next year.

I’m glad we addressed the hole in our linebacking core left by graduation in the portal! We are getting a few linebackers with experience ready to shore up the middle of that defense thanks to effective use of the portal! 🤣

The amount of effort you go about to pretend to be an Iowa fan on here is wild.

There were several times where UIowa blitzed Mizzou…….and got beat damn near every time….Mizzou did drop a couple of those blitz passes though that bailed us out a couple of times……however, UIowa doesn’t blitz very often since the Parkers have been DC…..Norm has a funny story about why he seldom blitzed..and Phil coached defense much the same way norm did…..except Phil swears a lot more than Norm did.

Its a fricking meaningless bowl game so no reason not to take some chances when your back end is getting torched and the pass rush is a no show, try a few blitzes
Iowa blitzed LBs , didn't get home, Iwas waitng for the m to send Castro, never did , Hard to send cash and corner blitzes when Hall was getting torched and Lee not much better .

Parker rarely blitzes. He’s as conservative as KF. Don’t take chances and capitalize on mistakes. Works great when one has a good back 7. Not this year.
You mean it works great against non-elite passing teams. Missouri wasn’t an anomaly, I recall many times and even Purdue cooking up Parker’s defense several times in the past, which is just sad.

Mizzou AA Wr didn’t play. Top TE out. 2nd half 2nd best wr out. Even as bad as our secondary played make inexperienced guys do something. We were literally going against their 4th/5th best WRs. But we didn’t change & played soft zone on those guys. I think 2 guys got their 1st or 2nd catches on the year in the 4th qtr.

It’s like after 1st qtr when cook got some runs PP was dead set on keeping him in the pocket contained. I was waiting for 2nd half psu in 21’ where he blitzed a lot against them when starting qb got hurt with mizzou receiving core down to 2/3rd stringers.

They have a QB and a WR room that puts Iowa's to shame. That was far and away the biggest difference between these 2 teams.

I remember a game several years ago when the other team started a freshman at QB and Iowa just let him stand back there until he found someone open. Evidently the game plan was to allow him to get comfortable since he didn't have any experience.

I agree that Iowa didn't blitz in the game and was disappointed in that fact.
