Michigan loses top recruit due to mailing gaffe

If I were a top ranked player (lol) I dont think I would have reacted so harshly if it was just this one thing. This was the biggest decision in his life and he picked an out of state BIG team for numerous reasons.

I think there must be more to this story than is being reported.

Sounds to me like he was waiting for a good reason to jump ship. At least that's the only thing I can think of.
That was my thought as well. Mommy wants him close to home it seems...(or she just wants a new car lol)

That said....I can see the mailing mishap, but not so much incorrectly spelling his first and last name.

Crunchie....there is already a thread on this. You're a little late to the sleep over ;)

My bad, I just saw it.

I kinda suspect an elite recruit from the south that hasn't even started his junior year of HS may have realized he was perhaps jumping the gun committing to Michigan. He might still end up at Michigan, but signing day 2018 is a long way off.

The name misspelling is kinda funny and likely happens fairly frequently but if you are looking for a reason to back out of your not really committed commitment it provides ammunition to that train of thought.

Are you talking about Solomon ? He's entering his senior year and is the 77th ranked player in 247's composite ratings. He has/had offers from most of the big boys including OSU, Bama, FSU, USC, and Georgia (probably the favorite).

they had 3 decommits in a week, 2 from 2018, 1 from 2017 (Solomon). Solomon was the name misspelling but a different kid from 2018 in the south also decommitted. I can't keep track. Harbaugh has such a loose definition of the word commitment that I don't really count those chickens til they sign an LOI on signing day.

In defense of the kid, he's only been through this process once so far in his life (obviously). He doesn't know if these mistakes are a common occurrence. If Michigan is the first school to send him an incorrect thank you note and has misspelled his name more than once (he apparently told them previously about an error), then it probably does not feel like they value him that much. If recruiting is such an automated process for UM that somebody isn't personally accounting for each communication, then I don't fault the kid for starting to feel like he's not as important to them as he should be.
