Michigan State Journalists: Over-Confident is an Understatement

What Morons! I really wish the media would check their facts... Claiming Iowa never had ANY first downs is a simple case of not doing your homework. Iowa made 11 first downs! They just didn't convert any 3rd downs.

Also, I have not heard one media person compare CJ to Conner Cook as far as playing ability. Not sure where that is coming from. Everyone I've heard when breaking down each team by position has given MSU the edge where QB is concerned.

Glen Mason on BTN. For the record, CJ is a great QB. I'd have on my team anytime.

I live in Grand Rapids and this is nothing compared to some of the local talk radio. I listen to it and chuckle, but it doesn't upset me. These guys are fans of their team, and have been spoiled by a few years of success.

Well, perception outside of Hawkeye fan circles seems to be that MSU will prove to be too much for this Hawkeye team...everyone is still picking against the Hawks, which is okay by me.

Here's a CBS sports take:

Maybe some Iowa fans need to adjust their "Insult meter" a little.

These guys are home team reporters who, by nature, will emphasize points that favor MSU. Beyond that, I didn't hear anything outrageous or beyond confident; nor anything that was overly disrespectful to Iowa.

OP's "overconfident is an understatement" characterization is itself an over-reaction IMO.

I think what they're saying is CJ didn't throw for a 1st down against Nebraska, not that Iowa didn't have any first downs at all.

That's wrong too, first play of the game was a first down, let alone the TE screen that set the first TD up.

Well true.

Folks...just like the Finebaum thread - these guys are talking heads (or writing heads) for the local team. To believe they wouldn't be over-confident after beating OSU in the Horseshoe if pure folly.

To the big schools (and I now included MSU in that bunch of say 15-20 or so schools), Iowa is too small, not deep enough, not talented enough...and will always be viewed that way until they rip off a 10 year stretch unlike any stretch the school has ever put up in their history, and in doing so beat one of the big boys in a major big time game. Like this Saturday.

There IS reason to doubt them. There's nothing wrong with that either. As a fan, you just have to roll with these armchair punches.

There's not a doubt in my mind every MSU fan (and local writer) there is believes they are going to beat Iowa this weekend. For one, I believe MSU is going to win also (but understand that is a slim say 55/45 deal with me) - but I fully understand there are reasonable reasons how Iowa can win this game, too.

That's why they play the games, folks. We ALL shall see.

They must have forgot what happened last time when Iowa played them when they were ranked #5.

See the problem is that OSU came into that game over-confident. Plus they only ran Elliot 11 times. You double that number and it's almost a guaranteed win for OSU. OSU showed what they can really do by going into the Big House and embarrassing the Wolverines. MSU lucked out that game. Sorry, but any team that loses to Nebraska isn't National Championship caliber.

Griffith is the furthest thing from an MSU homer. MSU fans hate him.

Lets put it this way, he's treating Iowa here like he treats MSU vs. UofM or OSU. He's a typical reporter. Follow the hype and always go with recruiting rankings and traditions when in doubt.
