Michigan's Antics

time stamps are on there- the pre game schedule shows they were 2 mins off (9;47) when they left Kellogg Center and took the field at 10:02

A Free Press photo shot with a 10 a.m. time stamp showed approximately eight Michigan players scattered across the field warming up individually along with a number of the team’s support staff at various yard lines. The Wolverines had been stretching and jogging individually for about 10 minutes prior to that picture and were not in full uniform.

Official pregame warmups do not begin until 90 minutes before kickoff.

The Spartans’ support staff were arriving to the field via the tunnel in the Free Press photo. MSU players wore helmets and gray sweatsuits on their walk to the stadium. The Spartans’ outfits for the pregame walk to the stadium often vary, from suits to warmup attire and occasionally with helmets.

Players lined up along the back of the north end zone, linked arms and began to walk the length of the field at 10:02 a.m. per a timestamp on a Free Press video that shows the confrontation with Michigan players Lawrence Marshall, Devin Bush and Lavert Hill.

The statement, issued from football sports information director Ben Phlegar, reads: “Regarding last Saturday’s pregame timeline, both teams were distributed pregame timing sheets and were in communication earlier in the week about Michigan State’s pregame tradition of walking the field upon arrival to Spartan Stadium. There has never been an on-field issue with this tradition in the 12 years under head coach Mark Dantonio. The timing of Saturday’s pregame tradition did not change from previous games, nor did the communication change between both schools. MSU was scheduled to leave the Kellogg Center for its walk to the stadium at 9:45 a.m. and left at 9:47 a.m. The team was scheduled to arrive at Spartan Stadium at approximately 10 a.m. and walked the field at approximately 10:02 a.m. As a courtesy, Michigan was granted field access before MSU’s arrival with the understanding from both sides that the U of M student-athletes would leave the field during this tradition. Michigan was on the field prior to 10 a.m. as previously agreed upon, but when multiple MSU staff members asked both U of M student-athletes and staff members to please move off the field for the pregame field walk, this did not occur.”

Appreciate this. Quick question...does MSU do that walk through before every home game at 10 am (or whatever equivalent 2 hours before kickoff)?

yes- they have been doing the "Phalanx" walk for past 12 years- I think they do it at away games as well but not sure the timing-and has never been an issue- they said in past there may be a few players from visiting teams stretching or whatever and they always step aside without incident- weird how this game just "happened" to have multiple cameras at the ready to view the "confrontation"

and despite what a Michigan fan said above that Coaches Lead the way "every time" simply false news- I have picture from 2012 I think our Spring game of Dantonio walking BEHIND the Phalanx as he did this game and team is wearing helmets

he also claimed this was FIRST time they wore helmets- lol that is false as well as per articles I posted above, they wore the Helmets from the walk from Kellogg Center

your coach? so you are a player on the team? i think"your" coach is a good coach and perfect for iowa. i just have no reason to hate him because i pay no attention to what he do's. sight one example of harbaugh being a "immature asshole". i bet that just made you feel so tough to say that about someone you have never meet and are just repeating things you have heard.

"what he do's"...

Lol, I like that!

tell the whole story, slappy. dantonio was leading them in , then fell behind the line when he saw michigan players on the field.

Big Ten should reprimand both coaches and tell then to get their shit together,... These guys are supposed to be the adults in the room....
and harbaugh did what? he commented on it after the fact. which by the way he had every right to do.

soooo...you on tv alot are you? plus he was invited by the family to stay there . and you are just trying to sound important like you know all these "secret" things about harbaugh. get a life.

I am on TV 6-10 times a year, not nearly the exposure that Harbaugh gets. I would hope that someone who is on TV that frequently(and works hard to get on TV) would know the expectations(not picking your nose being one). I don't know any deep dark secrets, just know enough personally to know he is a little weird, maybe it is what makes him great. As far as the 'family invited him' lol...perhaps one of the worst rationalizations I have read. Keep working on it though.

explain. what exactly do you think went on there? so you have never, in your entire life accepted an invitation to spend the night at a friends house? you are trying so hard to be relevant that it is embarrassing.

I figured they did, but timing wise is it always at that same time? All the reports are that the visiting team was allowed to start warmup on the field at 10 and MSU was late in their normal process.

So just curious if they normally do it earlier or is it just an unwritten rule that opposing players don't go on the field that early?

In any case it's all stupid rivalry BS that only makes these games more fun going forward. $10K to MSU is nothing and just the conference saying we had to do something.

I assume it is at that time ( 2hrs before kickoff) every time and per the statements they give the opponent the timeline each week-apparently per all the reports 4-8 UM players were out there before 10 AM along with a camera crew and MSU was 2 minutes late (10:02) on getting on the field as per the articles saying they left 2 mins late from Kellogg Center (9:47) in the past they did say sometimes there are a few players out there but they all step aside when MSU does the walk- this time they didn't- I would think that from now on they will change the rules and not allow visiting team on the field until 90 mins before kickoff which is the official time they can from what I've read

Dude, let it go. Most people on here seem to think Dantonio is the prick in this situation. So what if most of us and probably every other fan base sans Michigan think Harbaugh is a weirdo. His awkward interviews, recruiting adventures (climbing trees and sleepovers with kids), going shirtless in practice...all of this is odd.

The MSU statement says the opposing team is granted access early but asked to exit briefly for the walk. "As a courtesy, Michigan was granted field access before MSU’s arrival with the understanding from both sides that the U of M student-athletes would leave the field during this tradition."

Quit trying to defend Dantonio. He’s the sleaziest coach in the conference. Always has been.

Harbaugh, Michigan’s head football coach, lived in Iowa City during the early 1970s when his father, Jack, was an Iowa assistant. In late winter of 1971, Harbaugh had a painful introduction to his then-new community.

“I broke my leg in Iowa City, the first day we moved to Iowa City,” Harbaugh said. “I was (7) years old chasing my brother after the first day of school and across the street and didn’t look both ways, and I got hit by a mail truck.”

The accident was reported in The Gazette on March 14, 1971, about two weeks after the incident. His father took an assistant’s job at Michigan after the 1973 season.

Michigan Coach Jim Harbaugh was hit by a car on his first day in Iowa City in 1971. The Gazette reported it in this March 14, 1971 edition under “Hutch and Peacocks?”
“I loved growing up in Iowa City.” Harbaugh said. “I loved my teachers at St. Patrick’s. Sister Agnes, my third-grade teacher, my favorite teacher, along with Mrs. Hiller. She was really good, too, my fifth-grade teacher in Ann Arbor. I had wonderful memories of Iowa City.”

Fast forward to 1985 when Harbaugh quarterbacked the No. 2-ranked and unbeaten Michigan Wolverines into Kinnick Stadium for a battle with top-ranked Iowa. In perhaps the most high-profile game in the stadium’s 87-year history, the Hawkeyes beat Harbaugh’s Wolverines 12-10 on a last-second Rob Houghtlin field goal. The Hawkeyes won the Big Ten title outright that year, while Michigan finished one-half game behind Iowa.

“That particular game was 1 vs. 2, highly competitive,” Harbaugh recalled from Big Ten Media Days on Monday. “It was a game that we came up on short, but it was a heck of a football game. A very healthy game. That’s what I remember of it. Great competition.”

Harbaugh's an IC homeboy. Dantonio needs to go to the SEC where he'd fit in with the other ex MSU coach at Alabama.
