Midlands normally does pre-seeds a few days before the event. Does that normally show the extra and unattached guys? Would that be a reliable indicator if Lugo and Downey where going to be there?

They do seed unattached wrestlers so that should tell us who is registered when the pre-seeds come out.

PD3 197 at Midlands per his Snapchat
So Cash.....Warner.....PD3.....

Same reason other unattached wrestlers cut weight.
And they had the entire semester to do it. Make a valid comparison. Downey has done everything asked and expeted of him and still some need to find fault where none exists. He has basically 5-6 days to cut when it’s not really necessary. Midlands really are of no importnce. So he should have made it a priority because other wrestlers do?

The issue isn't cutting to 184,it would be the decension to it from 197, assuming he weighs in close to 197. So, if he does wrestle 197, it could be some time for him to be eligible to even go 184.

Edited to add: Also, if my understanding of the rule is correct, he could only decent 1.5% of his weight per week and would have to be down to 184 by Feb. 15th. That is cutting it very close if he weighs in close to 197 as it would take a minimum of 5 weeks to be able to weigh in at 184. I am sure that the decision makers know this, but I hope they make sure he at least weighs in a bit under 197 to be safe.

He said on twitter recently he was walking around at 195.

I really don’t know the exact rules on weight certification but understood that if he wrestles at 197 and when doing so he is in no way associated with any collgiate wresting program he would have an opportunity to certify when he did become a member of the team. Would appreciate your input here.

Downey didn’t have time to cut weight? What? Why not? Do you think he was locked up and not allowed to train or cut? Why does he only have 5 or 6 days to cut and everyone else had a semester?

By the sound of it he didn't know for sure if he'd be allowed to wrestle at Midlands, at least his dad appeared not to know

I thought it was more of a money issue than anything else. Why wouldn’t he been allowed to wrestle? He didnt have to be enrolled at Iowa to wrestle in the Midlands did he? I’m not trolling, I’m really asking.

Certifying at 184 shouldn't be an issue as long as his body fat allows for it. But, the rules regarding decent would still apply. Regardless of if he wrestled affiliated or not it would still be considered an official weigh-in and as soon as he did wrestle for Iowa, just like a redshirt being pulled, those matches would count on his official record.

He's said on twitter that he's going 184 this season. He'll be at 197 at Midlands but probably weigh in at 190ish. Will be very interesting to see Cash, PD3, and Warner in the same bracket at Midlands.

I understand your point and your interpretation of the rules is 100% correct, however my point is that Downey does not have to certify until he is actually a member of a college team.

“Institutions are required to enter the student-athlete’s minimum wrestling weight assessment forms (Section I) online at http://www.trackwrestling.com on or before the first official practice October 10. When a student-athlete joins the team after the first official practice, that individual’s Section I form shall be completed before he or she begins practice.” From NCAA weight management regs.

He has not been on the Iowa team nor will he be when/if he enters the Midlands Tournament. Therefore, he will not have to certify until he is admitted into a graduate program at Iowa and then cleared by the compliance department and begins practice. That is why I indicated there was no reason to attempt to cut to 84 in the few days before the Midlands.

That February 15th date has been struck from the rulebook, effective for this year.

Thanks, I was hoping you would chime in here to confirm and/or correct. At least we now know that he would definitely have the time necessary to get to 184. The only problem then would be how many matches would he able to get in at 184 before B1Gs?

Decent..... anyone has a decent shot at spending the night with one of togs sisters.

Descent....someone please clarify the certification rules and descent plan.

SNS ... couldn't resist
Merry Christmas

I always like it when these things bother someone else, but I learned early on in my wrestling message boarding career not to be the grammar police. English/Language Arts was always my worst subject in school, but I must have paid more attention than most. That being said, we all make mistakes.
