Midseason Wooden Award List

Player A: 15 ppg, 6 apg, 5 rpg
Player B: 23 ppg, 2 apg, 6 rpg

Player A had a great game at Oklahoma State last night scoring 30 points in an efficient game. He is averaging 19.5 points in 4 conference games since he finally found his game. Many only consider who scores the most points but Morris has been in the top two in the nation in assist/TO ratio since he was a sophomore. He was named the Big XII preseason player of the year. Mason of Kansas might win it but as he scores a few more points per game but in four conference games Morris has 22 assists with only 1 turnover whereas Mason has 20 assists and 12 turnovers in four conference games.

One of Jok's best tributes I think is his high free throw percentage which is especially impressive for a player of his height. The Wooden award will be pared down to 15 in early April and players can work themselves back on or be selected for the first time.

Jok is a terrific offensive player. I really wish he played at Iowa State. Nobody in his or her right mind would pick him over Morris.
Or any subjective person would recognize that Monte Morris was extremely fortunate to have Georges Niang on his team his 1st three years of college.

You're on an Iowa board. Jok is better. End of story (period).

Two TOTALLY different players with vastly different skill sets and different roles no matter what team that they would play for. Not sure why anyone would really compare them. As far as who you would pick, that depends on who you already have on your team. Finally, Morris is a deserving candidate, and it's an abomination that Jok isn't on the watch list.

Jok shouldn't be on this team, neither should Morris. You guys need to watch some other players around the country, if you think either of these guys are in the top 25 players. Monte is a fine college player, one I'd love to have on my team, but the key stat is always A/TO when ISU fans want to brag about him. The reality isn't that he gets a ton of assists per game(30th in the NCAA), it's that he doesn't turn it over that much. The fact that he is on this team ahead of a guy like Dennis Smith, who average more points, assists, and steals per game is ridiculous. Monte isn't a top 5 PG in the NCAA, and I'm not sure he's even top 10, this is a career recognition for him.

Candidate Criteria

  • Candidates must be full-time students in an accredited NCAA college or university.
  • Consideration should be given to scholastic achievement and aspirations. All candidates must have a cumulative 2.00 grade point average since enrolling in their current university.
  • Candidates must exhibit strength of character, both on and off the court.
  • Candidates should be those who contribute to team effort.
  • Candidates must excel in both offense and defense.
  • Candidates should be considered on their performance over the course of the entire season (pre-conference, conference and tournament play).

I'm a big UNC Tarheel fan too. Watch every one of their games. I'd take Jok over Berry or Jackson. Obviously Berry is a PG so it's difficult to compare him to Jok.

Jok is a great shooter, I love him as a hawk. However, he's a poor defender, turns it over more than I like, and his driving ability is definitely not a strength.

You make two very good points. For instance, if I have a choice of who to add to the current ISU team -- a Morris clone (no pun intended) or Jok -- I would take Jok.

If I were starting a team from scratch, I would take Morris.....and I think just about anybody else would, too.

Yes, Jok should most definitely be on the watch list.

Wow. Morris had 4 good games, impressive. Jok has carried a young team on his shoulders all season. He will be first team all Big and possibly POY in the Big. I'll keep him and you can keep Morris.
Morris has had four good seasons

1. Pro potential isn't supposed to have anything to do with the Wooden award, is it?
2. The fact this isn't like the Cousy award is significant; Jok and Morris are going up against every player in the country, not just guards and especially not just point guards.
3. The reason A/TO is what Morris boosters tout first is that it's pretty frigging spectacular. In four conference games this season it's 22/1. And until this year, while his scoring was good, it wasn't a big part of his game because he didn't have to score. Last night at Okie State he scored 30, and 16 of them were in the final 8 minutes after ISU got behind by 5.
4. I wouldn't really disagree with you that if we're picking the 25 best college players in America, he and Jok may not belong.

Fultz, Smith, Monk, Fox, Watson Jr,, and Ball are all better right now, off the top of my head. Pro potential aside, one couldn't convince me to take Monte over Mason or Trimble either. Grayson was just moved to the point as well. Monte is a very good player, and ISU fans will definitely take this as a diss, but it is what it is, and he's not one of the top 25 players in the country. Watching some of that special talent out there at PG, depresses me more that Iowa hasn't gotten any of it.

Monte definitely deserving of the honor but that is as far as he will make it on the wooden list unless he keeps having games like he did at OSU. If award was given right now I would give it to Mason from KU.

Morris was outplayed by a freshmen. Remember? You haven't been here for awhile. Why? You have won a couple of games and here you are. Welcome back.

The problem is that your are not capable of thought. Only muted expressions that will not get you rolled off this site. Timid much? Monte was so good tonight against TC who? ISU has rode the coat tails of KU for so long. Still timid? Now go beat KU and improve our RPI. There are at least 10 Morris's in the B16. Show me another player who can get his shot off like Jok. We can measure it. BTW Pete is leading all the P5 in scoring. His assists and rebounding stand up also. Monte get's first team douche. How were you going to celebrate your win again Monte?
