Mighty proud of this team

Purdue is an outstanding team - very talented. The Hawks were simply overmatched . most of the time.

Then you look at how close the Hawks got to pulling an enormous upset. It's impressive!

Then you look at the stats for the Hawks - 40% FG's, 24% 3's, 68% FT's - and it's even more impressive that they were able to hang with the BMakers.

Then you consider they did that without Keegan!

GO HAWKS!

So, would making a few free throws be more or less impressive?

I don't think Purdue is outstanding at all. I don't think they'll win the big ten. However, I can't remember an Iowa team that hustled as much ever, as our guys did last night. They were really fun to watch.

Could have easily folded up when it became obvious they were playing not only a superior team, but also the refs.

They showed a lot of resilience.

Gives me reason to believe they have the potential to be a pretty good team this season.

and we still can be a pretty good team

This is why I hate the mindset of moral victories. Less than a week later it's a totally different story. And in year 12 of a coaching tenure...

Coaches 12 years in can’t have clunkers? Bet you think Virginia should fire Bennett too don’t ya?

That coach from Virginia has a national title. Frans best team he will probably ever have got blown out in the opening weekend to a now meddling Oregon team. It's the same garbage year after year. But that's ok, let's just accept it.

That wasn’t the point you made. The point you made was it’s not acceptable in year 12 to have a bad loss.

I didn't make it as a point. I added it as a side note... My point was about moral victories which I think everyone would call last Friday one.

It is a competitive group and I like their fight. We just do not have the coach in place to get the best out of them. Not enough focus on man to man D, blocking out, and we do not reward good defense with playing time. Too many out of control bad shots by several players.

I did not like their fight last night. Biggest disappointment of that game was the lack of effort. Tony Perkins seemed to be the only one with any sense of urgency or fight. Everyone else looked completely passive.

I think it's tough ... the leaders on the team (older guys) have been passed up from an ability stand point by the younger players. It is going to take the younger guys on the team to take control and decide how they want the team to be going forward. That can be a tough transition to go through ... and you need a coaching staff to support it.

Will be interesting to watch ...
