Actually, being a clairvoyant type, I posted this last week, when Mike won from a
Hoops magazine and it was announced on BTN.

but but according to a certain poster Gesell is not a ELITE PG, and non elite PG's can't do that.
CONGRATS to Mike Gesell. This young man has busted his
*** to be the best player he can be..............not sure if all Hawkeye fans
are appreciative, or realize what a great young man, Mike Gesell is, to be representing the

I'll admit I dislike the word elite & those who ordained themselves judge.
Are there better PG's in college BB than Gesell? sure.
Is he one of the better PG's in the B1G? sure is.

Gesell is 9th in the Nation @ 6.9 apg, to me that make him Elite in the nation. you mad bro because IA has not won the BT tiltle as the PG in the last 3 years,
you and rev needs to get together for a poor poor me pity party.
How old are you? Does you mommy know you hang out on message boards?
I like Mike, he works hard and has been a good PG for us....just hasn't really developed and taken that next step that many of us were hoping for. Nice APG, but that one stat (even if combined with a B1G PotW honor) doesn't make him elite when compared to the entire country.
With that said I think he has a chance at 2nd Team all B1G this year if he keeps playing at this level; Melo pretty much has 1st Team all but nailed down, so Yogi and McIntosh will more than likely be the PGs he'll have to beat out for 2nd.
It is funny how things get turned around. I don't remember anyone ever claiming Mike Gesell is an elite point guard. I do remember people claiming he wasn't an average point guard in the Big Ten and wouldn't start for most of the teams in the league.
How was it this word "elite" was brought into the conversation? Correct me if I'm wrong but what it has managed to do is put a smoke screen over the far more negative remarks.

I have said on several occasions that Iowa needs an elite PG to become a top level program. I have not changed my view on this...and hope that Fran can find one or more of them on the recruiting front. He has come close...that's a first step.
MG has been competent, and has had a pretty nice year so far. I hope he keeps it up and avoids wearing down and getting hurt.
He also has had some teammates that can shot, which makes his stats look much better. This is true for a PG of any level of talent.
He is the heart of the team...and can excel if he avoids those crazy drives into the lane...right hand only...into double and triple coverage. Less is more for much of his game. He can shoot, especially the short range jumper, but struggles when he needs to be "the guy" who can get his shot off and carry the team on a regular basis.
Jok...Uhl...Uthoff...Baer...are shooters...get it to them, MG and you will continue to have a banner year at the helm.

that's because he has not won a BT title or taken this team to the FF. YOU REV would not what a ELITE PG is even if he hit you between the eyes with baseball bat.
you Rev have done nothing but rip MG since he started, and its all because he is WHITE. you were one of those BRAGGING up TD as the NEXT GREAT PG, guess what TD is BLACK and he didn't even finish the year @ IA.
I see you joined Nov 30th last year.. would it be fair to say you wouldn't know what was posted by posters about Gesell on HR prior?
