Mind Blowing That Iowa Isn't Recruiting Xavier Foster

Iowa has a HUGE hole in its lineup next year at center. They wasted 2 years of scholarship on failed project Josh Ogundele. They wasted another year of scholarship on a low touted high school kid so that he could graduate a year early to sit on the bench this year because Fran was unable to land a grad transfer. With Ogundele leaving (likely to a much lower level of basketball), neither are likely to contribute next year.

So why not put the full court press on to bring in Xavier Foster from the portal? The guy was the #1 in-state prospect in Iowa in 2020 and #78 prospect nationwide after averaging 24 points (including 93 3 pointers) and 10 rebounds at Oskaloosa. Iowa lacks a center and there's a home grown 4 star center who almost picked Iowa out of high school. It's a no brainer.

He got hurt his freshman year at ISU and only saw real minutes in two games. The first was when he matched up head to head with national player of the year Luka Garza. He had 8 points, 4 rebounds, and a block in just 14 minutes. Not bad for a true freshmen 7 footer. In his next game against Kansas State, he played just 13 minutes but had 10 points, 2 rebounds and 2 steals.

The Hawks can give scholarships to Austin Ash and Josh Ogundele, but aren't bothering to recruit a guy in their own back yard who can actually match up with Big 10 centers? How does that make sense?

It's not mind blowing at all. No way Iowa is going to recruit a guy with questionable character. While he is no longer the focus of the sexual assault probe, he had other discipline issues.

Besides that, Foster has publicly stated he wants to leave the state. So why recruit him when there is zero chance he commits.

Normally, I understand at some level where you are coming from, but this post is mind-blowing in its abject stupidity.

1. Foster is not a traditional post player.

2. Foster plans to leave the state.

3. Foster has too many character questions/concerns.

You used to only post your BS on the football board.

What's mind blowing are:

(1) your takes

(2) why you think Iowa should even consider touching him with a 10 foot pole

It’s America 🇺🇸, I’m glad I live in a country that allows mind blowing ideas. Even kooky ones like this. Prefer not watching him play for Hawkeyes though

Lol oh no…. He is an out for a stroll on a Sunday mornin’ Drama Queen shitposter. A true triple threat: No research - no filter - no intelligence.
I'd say that's pretty comprehensive. Well-said, Milt.

I watched Xavier play a couple times in high school and he should have been dominant. He often wasn't. He wasn't aggressive and preferred to take the outside shot rather than bang in for the dunk or layup. Oskaloosa did well because they were loaded with several good players and played a so-so schedule.. The last game I saw in person, up in Dubuque against an average Wahlert team with a losing record and no one over 6-4, Osky lost because the opposing front court player just out-hustled (and outscored) him. Iowa has several players who have played better and tougher than Xavier. If he can develop some aggressiveness and desire, and get his head on straight, he might still make it with a major program, but Fran has his principles and probably won't take him for several reasons, as outlined in posts above. He certainly has the talent; maybe with maturity his time will come.

Well he burned his bridges at Iowa and was a complete bust at his chosen school. He admitted to having poor habits and ignoring team rules. What's not to love?

Foster fancied himself as a seven foot version of Steph Curry when he played 3A Iowa high school basketball.

no way in hell will he play inside in high level DI basketball.

softer than hot butter, until he proves otherwise.
