Was a reason given for the pardon? Was it just because he had served 50 years or so in prison?
There is a lot to this case. Do some research before making a decision on this. I am not saying he should have been pardoned. But just make sure to gather all facts before passing judgement.

He murdered two FBI agents and fled the country. He should have been hung with a piano wire after the trial much released after doing JUST 50 years!
He also later escaped from prison and was found in possession of firearm, and convicted of both escape and being a felon in possession.
