If only college matches were five minutes long...oh, what might have been.
Instead, stalling calls when trailing, a HC who looks like he's sleep walking, and yet another embarrassing loss to your biggest rival.
But look at the bright side...Oh, wait. Never mind.

I know we're having fun here, but I want to say a few positives about Minny's performance today.

1. Lizak is a tough out. He took it to Gilman like no one has taken it to Gilman since Zeke Moisey. And he looked Gilman in the eye at the end, shook hands, and held his composure. Don't bash that kid.

2. Short had a smart gameplan against Kemerer that might've worked a year ago. Short is tough. Kemerer was just tougher.

3. Pfarr and Kroells. How much would I love for those two to be Hawks heading into NCAAs?

4. McKee is a tough true freshman--kudos to him for getting that last takedown and saving a team point. Tell me you wouldn't want him at 133 for the next couple of years while we're waiting for Teasdale.

Okay, back to Minny bashing.

Nice post!! I guess when you realize the team you support no longer wins championships it's cool to point out how you are better than at least some teams. Keep on being that guy!!

Okay, back to Minny bashing.

Some good points Tarp.

Honestly...I haven't seen anyone bash Lizak. Kid took it to Gman and then ran out of gas. Wonder if the cut is too much.

Not sure I've seen any Real bashing. Some teasing and lots of pleasure at our win.........

Wait.......wait...... I did see some bashing..........

Some 8th grade Geography student and another troll were bashing on Gilman and calling him a punk, etc.

Weak troll attempt. Do better

I'm not too disappointed, the match went about how I expected. I figured we would win 3 or 4 matches but also lose the bonus point battle. I thought Wanzek would eke out a win, but after seeing your boy go overtime with Isaac Jordan the other night, I wasn't all that sure. I really enjoyed the 125 match even if I didn't like the outcome.

The Minnesota fans were the fulfillment of Minnesota Nice to us today. Had lots of good conversations before, during and after the dual.

Were resigned to the fact they were going to get a beat down and the atmosphere outside of 125 was lousy. Although the tv timeouts didn't help at all with that. But it was sad to see the not filled up after remembering going to Williams and having it packed.

On another note, Gable Steveson was directly in front of us and got up to slap his brothers hand when he went out and then spent the majority of the meet on his phone, like a typical teenager. But he couldn't be impressed with the atmosphere or how his brother has progressed

Lizak is a quality guy and an beast on top. I was a little worried when Gilman went under him but honestly didn't think he would ultimately be strong enough to turn him, obviously wrong there. Some guys just have a knack on top (Mitch Clark anyone?) with those damn legs. I think Gilman will be able to defend better the next time but damn that was a scary wake up call for even us fans;)

Don't think Gilman chose to go under him. Lizak has always been good on top but Gilman had never had a problem. However, if you look at Lizak's Scuffle wins, he went from merely being a good rider to turning dudes. I'd have a healthy respect next time but I would go down if it is a typical Gilman match going into the third. Props to Lizak...Gilman also gave him some today as well.

Chief is correct. Lizak chose top in 2nd period and somehow ran out of gas on top. Gilman wisely chose neutral in 3rd and attacked like a shark.

In the second it was Gilmans choice. Terry was telling him to go feet, but Gilman didn't look over and just kind of reflexively deferred.

Gilman then tried to change to feet but JR wouldn't let him. Lizak looked at the bench and Eggum told him to choose top.

Troll Alert............

Frankly, he's right. Schadenfreude is nice and all, but no need to kick a guy when he's down, especially when your own team isn't meeting (admittedly high) expectations. Wrestling's more fun with competitive rivalries. Just like with ISU, I hope the Gophers right the ship. It's more fun that way and better for wrestling.

Huck can speak for himself but he didn't claim Gilman chose to go under him.

Hopefully not on the phone with Cael !

Jeebus! We're discussing a wrestling match up between two long time rivals.
No one is talking the pecking order at Nationals. We can do that in March.
We know Gopher fans are all butt hurt with their fall from relevance.
Minnesota has joined ISU in the sense that the winner is no longer in doubt...just the final score when they battle the Hawks.

He'll be impressed when he's wrestling home matches in Rec Hall.

I could easily see Gilman teching Lizak in their next meeting. Gilman was trying to force things on bottom and he paid. Be patient and if he rides you for 2 minutes so be it. Destroy him from neutral and call it a day.
I agree if Gilman get a leg first it's light out.

Gopher fans still crying about the Gilman match.
You couldn't have scripted the meltdown any better.

are those guys wrestling each other? mitch you have got to go.
They would have to pay me much $$$ to watch that shit show! The only reason I would consider going would be to see if they found Lizak's lungs in the "lost and found".
The other intriguing matchup is tough guy Steveson vs McRib.

Minny lightweight came out and did an outstanding job trying to knock off a top ranked veteren. It was probably a good match for gilman have as the season progresses. Im sure if they meet again gilman will focus on getting the first takedown and try to control the match from a position of control only leaving one period of the opponents choice of position.
