Looking at their season they have four wins..Colorado St by 3, Kent St by 3,..Kent St has 1 win this season, Ohio by 3 and Purdue. Has there been a turn around for this team? If so, what was it? Do they have players back from injuries? I realize they seem to be playing better recently and on an emotional high, but they've lost 3 in a row and 4 out of 5. I'm really not sure what to expect from them Saturday. They kicked our butts last year! If we truly are a top 5 team we should dominate this game Saturday. If Minnesota comes into Kinnick, black out & special uni's, one of the craziest crowds ever expected, and they beat us..hats off to them. With everything surrounding Saturday I just cant see us laying an egg. We need to prove what we are made of. This is a major game for our football program. MAJOR!

1) Kent State has 3 wins.

2) Minnesota sucks. They have had a ton of injuries on both sides of the ball. Their D is "ok". They haven't been able to run the ball like normal because of OL injuries and the fact that David Cobb was a freaking stud and no longer plays there. Leidner, as usual, sucks, and their WRs are so bad they make ours look like Baylor's by comparison.

This is a game that we will win handily, but probably in typical KF 31-14 fashion.

If we get out to a decent lead, I hope Greg pleads with Kirk to let him keep his foot on the pedal in the second half. I don't want us doing anything stupid to risk getting CJB hurt, but this team has earned the privilege to beat down a B1G opponent at home for their fans. If they're going to do that this season, this game makes sense after last year's result.

Let's let the excitement from the atmosphere push this game to a frenzy that everyone can remember. 10-0!!! #5 in the rankings! Let's get this one.

I don't think Minnesota is that good. I'd tell the 'yeah but they played tOSU tough' crowd that tOSU has played only a handfull of quarters of really good football this season. Regardless of what KF and Co. and the players tell you, they remember the spanking they got last year at Kinnick North. I think our boys are going to be amped up. I think they return the spanking this year and win big.

The biggest question with this team now is whether or not they can handle the success and new high expectations they've placed on themselves. They also have a humongous black-and-gold target on their back, which is usually only there when they play Iowa State. These next 3 games they'll be playing against teams that they are better than - however, these teams will all be playing with nothing to lose and a chance to make their respective seasons, while Iowa has everything to lose; that is not an easy situation to be in. Whether they admit it or not, the pressure builds as the winning streak grows. While most people are saying that the hardest part of Iowa's season is behind them, I don't agree at all. I think we're going to learn more about this team over the next 3 weeks than we've learned about them all season up to this point.

What's the name of that salad? Cobb? Yea, that's it, Cobb. They ain't got no COBB!!!!

Oh yea, that ain't got that Maxi Pad TE anymore either. (Think about that......... Tight End and Maxi Pad used in same sentence. Seems like I should be on another site.)

Minnesota's season has resembled Northwestern's season from last year. They're well coached and have good players - but injuries contributed to a lot of losses. Once you those losses and see your season goals fall to the wayside - it unglues the resolve of the team.

However, the departure of Kill seems to have reinvigorated the group - given them a newfound resolve.

They're going to fight hard in the game - they're going to want it bad. If Iowa matches their intensity, then I have plenty of confidence in our Hawks. However, as others have said ... there is definitely a large black and gold target on our backs these days.

From what I've seen they play very good defense. No consistency on offense. Vegas thinks we are 12 points better than them. 28-16 Hawks

Not sure why everyone associated with mn is confident in a victory. Has anyone looked at their offensive drives against OSU? If not for a couple broken plays they would have had all 3 and outs.

If it was in Minny i might be a bit concerned, but in Kinnick at night, we should pound on em early and put them in their place fairly easily, I hope.

Yeah they like to pass the ball more than normal. That will work great with the crowd noise they haven't experienced.

Dude, every game is major when an undefeated season is on the line. Stop the MAJOR stuff. Every game is.

This team has earned the privilege to beat down the goofers, period!!

I think this hasn't sets up for Iowa to put an ass whipping on the gophers. I think Minnesota has poured a lot into their last two games, physical contests that have beat them down, and their ripe for that letdown of playing 3 brutally tough games in a row. Conversely, Iowa's coming home off a hard road game for a night game with new unis and what will be an electric crowd. I think we are what we are and we continue to be consistent in all phases and we handle Minnesota comfortable.

Agreed. This may be one of the few games where Iowa covers the Vegas spread. Minnesota is not a good team. Their signature games were playing TCU and Michigan close in a loss. And that was when they were a healthy team. They have injuries, but so does every team in the country.
The Rodents better keep it close in the first quarter or we are looking at a 38-10 type game. Iowa players likely vividly remember the beatdown at TCF. If that isn't enough motivation... I would think the staff has kept them focused.
Go Hawks!

If our D does what I think they will do, this is a fun W. If Minny can find a way to put points on the board, gonna be a good game.

For any of you Gopherholers trolling this thread... damn, the lack of football knowledge on your site is kind of sad! The inferiority complex your fans have in regards to your rivalries with Iowa and Wisconsin make you look silly.

BTW: Cobb and Max are gone. You have a jv coach. And lastly...hope you can somehow get to 5 wins so you can somehow back into some bowl game played in mid December played in southern Kentucky or some other hellhole.

.

One difference between Minnesota this year and Northwestern last year is NU beat ranked Wisconsin, ranked Notre Dame, and PSU last year. They had some quality wins while suffering some frustrating losses (Cal, NIU, Michigan). Minnesota hasn't beaten any winning teams but has played close against some tough opponents (TCU, Mich. OSU).

Good luck this Saturday.

They needed an answered prayer to beat CSU if I recall.

It's a rivalry game, so there's always that caveat, but come on; it's the goofers at home. Iowa has shown time and again they are up for every challenge. I'll worry about them collapsing under pressure, or stubbing their toes against an inferior team, or anything else people are worried about when it happens.

This will be an annihilation. We must break them.

Especially now when it seems the "eye test" matters more (moving target it seems) with the CFP/pundits.....an 8 point win won't keep us at 5 for very long.

I've already prepared for the Hawks to drop in next week's CFP poll, even with a convincing win, for two reasons: 1) The committee seemed to value different factors in the 2nd poll compared to the first, so they may come up with new criteria for the 3rd; and 2) the criticism they've had from the talking heads will effect them, even though it shouldn't and they will claim that it doesn't.

Yup. The hawks have a lot more to gain and more play for. Every win from here on out, goes into the record books!

GO HAWKS!!

The key to beating Minnesota is scoring more points than them.
