149- A he's not a scoring machine so I wasn't expecting a TF. Wish there was more pace in the 1st. BS needs to use that front headlock better.
157- A solid major. Short took 1 shot and didn't score off it. How there was only a stall warning is beyond me.
165- A- first off wth is this ref? Total homer. Good win. He was 1-1 in shots. Let's take more.
174- A good match. Pfarr was doing everything he could to hit Meyer in the nose in that 1st period.
184- B- Brooks shoulda wiped the mat with him. He looked a little disinterested.
197- C this weight is Cox then Pfarr and Moore then the next 6-7. At least Bowman was active and taking shots. He fought hard on bottom.
285- D+ great first period then all downhill. Why not go neutral in the 3rd? At least he put forth a better effort than the PSU match.
125- B+ great comeback. I was sitting at the table and I said Gilman has the offense to comeback but he has to get out. Very Ramos like with the cow catcher. I think Gilman was unprepared and will learn from this. He did great keeping his composure and not giving up.
133- A- good match. Clark didn't try to fight that last position which I think was smart since it was on his bad shoulder side. Not too disappointed in his effort. Liked the Schopp Special there too.
141- B+ Carton will win next time. Of course the video conveniently didn't work.

Gilman should've chosen neutral in the second. Almost cost him the match. Gotta make better decisions. Great job continuing to bring it the entire match and not giving up though.

Yes, Lizak chose top in the 2nd and Gilman chose neutral in the 3rd.

This is correct. Gilman should not have deferred after getting ridden like a mule in the first period. He should have chosen neutral to exploit his strength.

I disagree. By deferring he forced Lozal to make the decision and then he has the 3rd to make sure he is in his preferred position. When you have superior conditioning being where you want to be in the 3rd is crucial. No reason to chance Lizak choosing top in the 3rd and riding out.

Gilman could have also found himself down by even more if he got turned in the second. The match could've been over by the third. Thankfully Lizak tired himself out, something that usually happens to the guy underneath.

If he didn't have a huge conditioning and neutral wrestling advantage, I would agree with you. But, he forced Lizak to make a decision to give up a chance at making it 9-0 with an escape or try to ride again, while knowing he will own the 3rd. Plus, it wasn't as much Lizak turning him as Gilman forcing those positions by trying so hard to get away. I really didn't expect him to give up back points once he regained his composure.

Ok, we have a difference of opinion. This is fine.

Somehow it seems like the Hawks just beat a lower level D-2 team. Four majors and a pin against a team SUPPOSEDLY ranked at number 10?
That just shows how bad anything past the top 6-8 is.

Strange and convenient for the home team that was the beneficiary of the bad no call. If they have technical difficulties then they should not be allowed to host competition.
Actually, that's a good point. Makes you wonder if the monitor might have mysteriously begun to to work if the situation had been reversed.

But back to what you were saying, home football teams can get penalized for crowd behavior, etc. How about a team penalty point if the replay system isn't working and a potential score by the visitors can't be reviewed? I'd be fine with that.

149: A-. Started too slow. No back points. Homework for BS: watch Kemerer's match to learn how to start faster.
157: A. Shot in first 5 seconds. Didn't panic when Short got defensive TD. No theatrics by Kemerer at the end--just calm and cool.
165: B. Good win by Gunther, but not creating angles and not taking enough shots. Found a way to win--he lacks some talent but he has heart.
174: A-. Slow start. Scored first back points of the meet. Good third period. Homework: watch Kemerer.
184: A-. Generally solid match, brain fart at end of second giving up escape.
197: D. Filler.
285: D. Filler.
125: A-. Good Brands-like comeback. Lesson learned about this lanky guy. I could've done without the theatrics afterwards. Act like you knew you were going to pin him. (Did coaches' reactions cost us a team point here? Or was it the entire bench? Either way--F to whoever cost us a team point. Bush league and inexcusable.)
133: A-. Slow start, and a brain fart at the end, but solid wrestling in between. Clearly not 100%.
141: B-. Carton finds a way to lose. What, you were going to ride Thorn for 2 minutes just to take the match to OT? Just mind-bogglingly stupid. The video replay malfunction sucked, it's true, but Jesus, find a way to win. Homework: watch Gunther.

Overall: B+.

I felt we needed 6 from Gilman. Had no idea he needed that 6 to win the match. C grade at best.
His constant berating of his mouth, in an opponents ear, AFTER the match, is gonna' catch up to him.
Notice he didn't do that today!!

I thought it might have today. But he has a great period 3. Congrats Gilman. Humility pill until your on the podiums in Bloomington, IN. & St. Louis, Mo.

Carton should have let his guy go early, in the third, and then taken him down.

Iowa was in way better shape. Should have taken advantage in a couple matches.

Actually, he did say something.

I love it Tarp! I'm reading your review thinking tops he gives IA a D+ and then I see a B+. I don't ever want to see you pissed off;).

Gilman is exactly what this sport needs. Tom n Terry and Carl are all good for the sport. I don't give a crap about the bench point given.

Carton did have to ride for over 10 seconds to erase riding time, but he certainly didn't need to ride him for the next 70 seconds. I think when he got the arm bar he thought he could ride out the period. That was a mistake this time. I'm still surprised they were fine with not being able to watch the review. How hard is to show a replay? Someone in the arena could have replayed that on there phone for the ref. Imagine that some guy comes out of the stands and plays the replay in super slow speed for the ref on his I phone because the 30 people running Minnesota scoring table can't seem to figure out how to play a video that is happening right in front of them. Drug dealers and cheaters apparently.

Carton has so much potential it's frustrating when he doesn't get on his offense early but he goes 100% for seven minutes

Haters gonna hate, hate, hate.

Who takes over the villain role in wrestling for next year? Renteria (if he doesn't redshirt)?

Good win today lots of room for improvement..197 and Hwt is what it is both guys are in wrong weight class but is all we have.
Gunther and Carlton are improving but both need to get more shots some way for take downs..Both are in shape and have good defense but find some way to score early not wait around..
Hope this was a wake up Gillman and wish he would act like he has been there before. Don't really like that running into other teams huddle at introduction no need for that kind of stuff but he is what he is good wrestler but should handle his success better just my opinon can live with it :)

I think it was on Terry for going on the mat. It was the second mat control warning against Iowa after Tom berated the ref for the stall calls in Gunther's match.

My only real objection is about 125.

First of all, at least as far as I could tell, Gilman didn't put on any real theatrics. He was understandably surprised by his comeback and fall, and what I saw was more surprise and elation than anything. I didn't see him taunt the home crowd.

I hope he said something like "great match" to Lizak, because that's what it was. If he said something negative, he should have his mouth washed out with soap, particularly after getting manhandled for 2 periods. But I didn't see anything that looked like smack talk after the match.

As for the team point deduction, I have no problem with it as long as nobody was taunting, and I didn't see anything like that. I just saw a bunch of coaches and wrestlers celebrating like crazy, and I loved it. Frankly, I thought the deduction was bogus. Don't we want celebrations of exciting moments in this sport? Aren't we trying to increase its appeal rather than let it dry up and blow away? As long as there isn't a sportsmanship issue, let teams celebrate big wins, for crying out loud. (If Terry was way out on the mat and it was a clear violation, I guess I understand, but if it was at all borderline, you just let that go, IMO.)

I think it was on Terry for going on the mat. It was the second mat control warning against Iowa after Tom berated the ref for the stall calls in Gunther's match.
I'm a big fan of Tom's and all, but Gunther deserved every stalling warning he got, IMO. Dude didn't take a shot for like 1.5 periods, except for one meaningless one out of bounds.

When you are staying square, hand fighting, not backing out of bounds and the other person is not shooting either, hard to justify two stalling calls in 10-12 seconds. Especilly how stalling has been called during the entire match.
