It’s going to be quite the battle for playing time next year. We now have a new backup point guard (JT), two guard (CJ), wing (Patrick), Forward (Pemsl), and Center (Nunge).

Do you think Fran will revert to his old ways and give each guy his time? Or do you think we see 9 to 10 guys playing?

I think Patrick sees a lot of time, especially if we struggle to defend on the perimeter. I think he replaces Baer as our energy guy. He can shoot too.

I think Joe and Bohannon play the most minutes of anyone followed by potentially.. Garza Or Kriener.

I think Pemsl will carve out some time too. He brings a lot of emotion to the game and can defend wings and large guards on switches.

I really like what Joe T brings to the team, he adds an element of suddenness we’ve lacked. I think it would be really interesting to play him with Bohannon, Joe, Nunge, and Garza. All 3 point shooters. He would have the whole lane to work with.

Fran will have the ability to be multiple too. Which probably leads to him playing around 11 or 12 guys.

A fun lineup to consider is JT, Joe W, Patrick, Kriener, and Pemsl.

Would be a little stagnant on offense but would be a very good low post scoring team

However, on the other side of the court they could be very effective with Joe and Patrick being great helpers and secondary rebounders.

I think Moss sees less time this year even with the absence of Dailey. I think Connor, JT and even CJ began to see his minutes unless he is scoring at a really high rate.

I previously didn't think Patrick would be redshirting, but it is becoming more probable that he will. If he doesn't get to 195lbs. by Fall he's going to redshirt. I also see a bit why with as many bodies and the feeling I'm also getting that Bohannon is going to see major minutes at the SG with Moss swinging between there and backing up Wieskamp as well (where I had penciled in Patrick previously).

At the forwards we're going to be deep with Cook, Garza, Kriener, Pemsl, and Nunge. 5 guys and 2 positions.
I think at the "big" guard spot we'll see Wieskamp and Moss, maybe see Connor get some minutes there as well situationally?
Then I think at shooting guard we may see Bohannon and Fredrick log major time there.
This opens door for Toussaint to take the keys and drive the team with help from Bohannon and Connor

We will have times where we can play small (especially in the backcourt) but times where we have to go big but I see some advantages to both. But this puts us at 11 guys getting minutes. I can live with that.

Garza / Kriener / Nunge
Cook / Pemsl / Nunge
Wieskamp / Moss
Moss / Bohannon / Fredrick
Bohannon / Toussaint / C-Mac

I am the opposite on Patrick. I had him redshirting for sure. However now I have him playing.... We will see. I sure hope he is all that and more. Or this fan base will eat him up. As would most fans of any team.

On the minutes distribution, Cook is a huge wildcard. That's 30 minutes to spread around. If he stays his minutes will drop, with Nunge and Pemsl returning to the lineup.

If Patrick plays, and Cook stays, I get a bad feeling. Fran will play everyone. That's a 12 man rotation. That will be our downfall...

Of the Elite Eight most teams had a 7-8 man rotation. Only two played 9 players. NOBODY played more than that.

Fran absolutely has to dwindle our rotation. Find out Early who our top 7 or 8 guys are the last 5 minutes of the game and those guys play a majority of the 2nd half.... But can Fran do that and control his urge to play more guys...? We'll see. My fingers are crossed

Nunge plays before and more often than Pemsl
Where? Whose minutes will he take?

Pemsl has his position defined - power forward. He can guard that and has the ability to put up numbers there, too.

Nunge pretty much has to be a pick and pop 5, like Garza, but he needs to be able to score with his back to the basket or he will not play much.

Nunge is the definition of a stretch 4, IMO. Garza and Kriener will play all the minutes at the 5 hopefully.

Pemsl is an undersized 5. People talk about Cook not being able to score from outside 5 feet, CP has shown no ability to do that. I'm usually wrong but Fran has to see that JN has far more potential and he needs to play more than CP.

Agree. Just check the Virginia player minutes. Or the 1980 Iowa final four team. 7-8 players is plenty.

I think 8-9 is the perfect amount, probably lean towards 9.

Next year assuming Cook and Moss return:

Bohannon
Moss
Wieskamp
Cook
Garza
Kriener
Patrick
Best of Nunge/Pemsl
Best of Connor/Joe T/Fredrick

Can Pemsl’s health be counted on? Not holding my breath there. I see him as an energy guy off the bench for 10-12 minutes, not much else even I like the guys game. Nunge will get more minutes in the post.

I liked what I saw out of Moss the past few games. Need him to stay aggressive and i think he will get at least 25mpg.

Hard to say. Of the 3 Nunge has shown the least by far. Another Fran "big" who prefers to shoot 3's and isn't fond of getting in the paint. Unless he comes back with a transformed body and some toughness I don't see what he brings other than a slightly better Kyle Meyer. We have heard these "dominant in practice" stories from Fran for 9 years. Not sure what Fran's aversion is to getting a Reggie Evans type guy who wants to guard and hit the glass.

What we have seen so far from Pemsl has been him on one leg, and it has been impressive considering. If he is healthy, and that is a big if, I expect to see more of what we saw of him for the first 3 years of high school but with maturity added in - a decent shooter out to 15 feet and maybe more, plus a crafty person around the basket who likes to defend and rebound. If he can bring that, he will definitely see more than 10-12 mpg.

Pemsl's best game was his last one against Ia State. If memory is correct, I was shocked that he took (AND MADE) a 12-15 ft. shot.

I’m assuming Cook will be gone and I think Nunge will start at PF with Pemsl being energy guy off the bench.
