Missed Travel In OT

It was a huge call but IA choked it away in the OT. Credit TN in that they really pressured JBo in OT and we couldn't really get into an effective offensive set.

True, that was 3pts...but things even out...the foul in regulation on Jbo 3pt shot was a big call in Iowa favor. Moss played some hero ball in OT and Cook got stripped and outplayed by his opponent Big.
Both Moss and Cook should come back as seniors and make a difference. Neither played well in the biggest game of their lives.

They also missed a charge, called it a block. And Kreiner got hacked on his way up for a dunk with no call in the first half. Wieskamp poked a ball from behind during our comeback and it was called a foul, Iowa's 6th of the second half, the next one sent them to the line.

Weiskamp fouled a guy on a breakaway and it didn't get called, that's the only bad call I remember going against TN.

JBO was getting stiffarms in his chest a lot during his dribble.

That's always going to be Iowas Achilles heal.

Almost every power 5 team has a pg that can smother JBO and make it difficult to get the ball where it needs to go.

Should have been a travel and it should have been a charge in regulation. If Williams would have picked up his fourth on that obvious charge, it would have been a different game. Williams was the difference in ot.

That's exactly what I said in the GT in regulation. Just like yesterday when Maryland lost to LSU. They had the ball with 19 seconds, foul em hope for 1/2 worse case scenario we have chance to tie or win but it's in our hands for the last shot. OT I thought would be rough. It was...

You never ever give another team free throws on purpose when the game is tied.

Not JBo’s fault he’s never had another guard to take the pressure off him. That being said JBo’s always in complete control and plays with a level head, if he had some help he’d be lethal.

As an outsider - pulling hard for B1G teams - I thought it was a well called game. IMHO - I thought if there were "iffy" calls that Tenn got the breaks in the 1st half, Iowa in the 2nd half. If you followed the 2nd half on the Tenn boards, they were screaming about Iowa getting all the critical 2nd half calls due to a pro-B1G atmosphere in Columbus - many local Columbus/Buckeye fans and other fan bases besides Tenn were screaming for Iowa. My point: it all evens out in the end.

GREAT comeback by the Hawkeyes. Could have very well folded after that awful 1st half

Not according to hoyle, but sometimes I think outside the box...:) How did it work out for Maryland yesterday? I want to decide my own fate. Chance to tie or win. We were out of gas after the 25 point comeback, I don't want OT. Tennessee outscorded us 14 - 1 last time we went to OT vs. them in the tourney...but I realize no coach in his right mind would do it, so I was hoping we'd foul " by accident " early on to test my theory...

I saw Hawkeye heads flying all over the place today. Hell, Garza bit the floor twice. Joe Cool looks like he has a bruise on the side of his face too.

I felt like the shot Garza took could have at least been reviewed for a flagrant 1
Honestly, I feel like we sometimes complain about refs too much as Hawk fans, but then I see another day like today. Connor took a punch at one point too. It was unbelievable how aggressive they were letting TN be. Jbo's 2nd half opening really nailed the type of frustration they have faced all season.

I felt that even though the refs missed some calls, it was both ways. Won’t complain too much about the officiating. Just thought there were a couple plays that could have been reviewed. Especially since that Williams got the refs to review for a hook and hold, why couldn’t the Hawks get them to review the shots to the face?

I surprisingly have seen very few reviews for that kind of stuff so far in the tournament

I agree. I think officiating has been horrible all around for everyone this season. But the Hawkeyes have taken far more hits above the shoulders than they have given this season.

Lot of bang bang calls where you could call the charge that didn’t go our way. I know we got the JBo call on 3 pt shot. But seemed we were on the short end of the stick on lot of calls. Like early in game JBo tries to take charged and not arguing he didnt foul but think was schoefield takes another big step then gets shot up for an and one which was total nba continuation and should have been on the ground. Also first half flip side Garza they called on ground where looked like he pumped fake for a shot. Or even first foul on Garza in OT.

What hurt us most was missed ft in first half. Kriener was awful from the line cooked missed front end of one and one even Garza who is good missed one. We left 5-6 pts on the line first half that could have been a 15 not 20 pt deficit at half.

Hopefully he will get that next year

My point: it all evens out in the end.

That's bullshit. Any intelligent, objective observer knows the game was called one way on one end and the opposite on the other. Evens out my ass. It was roughly a ratio of 5 bad calls on Iowa to every 1 on Tennessee. Evens out is what you say when you try to explain the inexplicable.

And it's also true if Iowa had made just ONE more first-half FT, they win in regulation.

For such a juggernaut, Tenn has now lucked out two wins: first against Colgate with its best player on the bench the entire second half, and now against Iowa in OT after blowing a 25-point lead.

How about giving Iowa the edge with the officials just ONE damn time and see what happens.

I thought Bohannon's was an obvious foul and that it was the correct call for continuation in that case (it was Williams, not Schofield on that one). It also came right after the Tennessee breakaway where Weiskamp mugged the guy at the hoop and somehow got away with no foul call at all, so might've been a make up call.

If you play woulda, coulda, shoulda, don't forget Tennessee made the 3 on the play where Cook got hurt, I think they called it a 3 seconds so it didn't count. They also made the 3 at the end of the first half that came right after the buzzer. That's six more potential points in addition to the phantom foul on the JBo 3 pointer which would've been a breakaway dunk and a five point swing. Iowa got lots of breaks in addition to Tennessee not playing well with a big lead, they just blew a 14 point second half lead two days before when Colgate didn't even have their best player. Just huge scoring droughts and sloppy turnovers, same as their blowout loss to Auburn in the SEC title game. I think Purdue will blow them out if Edwards and Cline hit their threes at all. Haarms has the height advantage vs their bigs and Eastern is long enough and quick enough to take away their point guard. But Purdue isn't usually a March team either, so it'll be interesting.

I made a post about that yesterday.
I get sick of refs deciding what coach they want to listen to when it comes to reviews. It's total bullshit!
If the coach is so sure they got screwed, then tell them to risk a TO and it will be looked at. If they aren't positive, then shut up and play on!

That said, we had chances to win and blew it :(. The only thing I don't get is why didn't we get any shot before OT? Clearly there was at least .5 seconds left.....

What the hell does this even mean?

What the hell does this even mean?

It means all the people saying "if Iowa would've made one more free throw" only look at things from their own perspective. If Tennessee makes one more free throw in the second half, they win the game. Not complicated stuff.

I see nothing that i quoted about free throws.

I think you are quoting random crap that is weird like if they Tennessee was allowed to count a shot at half that was clearly after the buzzer. So again I ask, what the hell does this even mean?
