except the season may not happen , unfortunately

It'll happen. Maybe no fans at worst but athletic departments can't afford not to and under 24 year olds have a mortality rate of effectively zero.
seriously if public schools are going to give it a go, then college football can also. and if students are going to be on campus, then football can happen without fans. If the country just accepts that for a month or 2 we all need to wear a mask while in public and be more cautious then this stuff could deescalate.

Except for you have coaches and staff who aren’t 24 and under.

I don’t see football happening until the spring when there is more time to get this virus under control. You can’t have situations where multiple players are constantly being quarantined like is happening still with teams. Iowa might be OK now but it just takes one case to cause multiple players to be tested and quarantined. I wish we could have fall football but I don’t see it.

I also think elementary and high schools are not going to finish with in person classes. That is going to be a disaster.

Even if we get rid of Trump it's not going to be that easy to control it. there's too much idiocy in this country...

If Trump were to lose, and I don't think he does, this virus would be eradicated in the United States by Thanksgiving.
What a shame. I love Iowa so much even though I haven't lived there in 35 years. Just stupid stupid people like you. God almighty. You are saying this is all a hoax to defeat Trump. God have mercy on our souls for idiots like you.

Unless the staff are 75 with more than an average of 2 comorbidities then they're low risk too.

The average age of death in the US is 78 and over 80 percent have at least 1 comorbidity. In most states over half the deaths are in nursing homes.

We've been having UFC, baseball and now AAU level HS basketball. Time to open up.

UFC and MLB can keep an eye on their players and have precautions in place that high schools and colleges will never have. There also have been HS baseball and softball that have shut down.

The fact that spikes are still happening means we aren’t ready to open up. Opening up is why we are in the situation we are in. This virus isn’t under control at all and death rate shouldn’t be the benchmark. It’s a new virus we know little about in terms of longterm effects. Moving too fast isn’t smart.

The death rate shouldn’t be the benchmark? What should then? I don’t think there will be long term effects from this illness for the vast majority. Those most likely are those that required ventilatory support of one type or the other.

Secondly, why is everyone so concerned about the long term consequences of this virus yet the overall cost in lives and our health system of obesity is just accepted? And has been for decades. That’s the real epidemic.

I’d be willing to bet that many of those on here expressing the most concern about this illness are themselves overweight. Which has many more long term affects on overall heath long term than this virus is likely to cause. So maybe they ought to look inside themselves and eat a lot less and actually get outside and exercise and get the BMI down.

Most of the people I see out not wearing masks are fat.

I’m a former college athlete and at 43 am still in good shape. Some people just have consideration for others. Try again.

Cases should be what we are looking at because we have no vaccine. You OK with it just spreading when we know little about it. Hell we don’t even know if once you get it that you can’t get it again.

No cases are not what we should be looking at. The one and only reason this virus is a big deal has nothing to do with the total number of cases. It has everything to do with the number of associated fatalities.

Without a vaccine, 50-80% or so of people are gonna get this. Eventually. Masks are a good idea to protect those at risk, to be good stewards and to slow the growth until a vaccine becomes available.

We don’t know if people can get this twice. But there have been no confirmed fatalities that have been theorized to be a re infection. So that’s good news on that front.

And Im not ok with it just spreading. But I am ok, if a vaccine is more than a year off yet, of letting people not at risk get it. People less than 40. And keep those at risk sheltered.

Will there be a few deaths, if we do this? Yes of course. But no one will be able to say those deaths wouldn’t have occurred otherwise. Since no vaccine exists as you’ve so carefully pointed out.

Let’s all just pray for an effective vaccine before the end of 2020 so we can ALL just get back to normal.

Agreed and if any group can social distance it's the coaches. They don't have to block or tackle other people. If a coach has underlying issues or family members who are at risk sharing the house with them, then they can opt out of the season. My guess is 90+% of coaches want to participate.

Actually, if it weren't for gullible fools like you, the left wouldn't even attempt such a scam. You idiots have fallen for one ridiculous scam after another since the Russia hoax.

This is the proof of stupid people having a voice! I world wide problem but some think the problem is only here being drivin by Trump haters. I do believe that Trump has set the recovery back and people are dying because of him. let me explain ......His constant use of words like "hoax" and "fake news" has his followers believing that this is just that. I see it and hear it every day. The country's that both politicians and heath experts have been on the same page have done a much better job controlling this. Both Brazil and the USA have Presidents that refuse to face the issue and this thing is out of control in both of those counties. Meanwhile people are getting sick and some dying ......this is not a hoax or fake news ....wake up people!!

So, tell us in all the detail so we can fully understand, what should be done to halt the virus. What has Trump not done to help the states fight the virus? You do know that the Governor's have the authority over fighting the virus in their own states, right? Tell us exactly why the virus is spreading and link me to any site that has video of Trump calling the ''virus'' a hoax, not the media, the ''virus''. Not looking for your opinions, you already gave us those. I'm looking for facts.

We could start with not talking politics on a post about locker room unity for one. Let it go for once. No one's mind is going to be swayed on an internet message board.

Ya, the virus is all about Trump. If he loses then cancer will be cured, and people will live to 200, and all crime will disappear. You're a real genius.

What % of Iowa High School Baseball/Softball teams had to shutdown for the season? And how many had serious medical issues from it (i.e. hospitalizations, deaths)?

Eradicated is probably the wrong word - the message will change and it will be more of a common sense approach to dealing with any type of disease. The fear that has been created is real. They will have to be convinced otherwise.

And this is how threads get derailed and soon deleted.

If you want to talk about Trump, go to the OT board. Now every idiot with an opinion is going to sound off in this thread.

Everyone always wants someone else to be responsible for stuff a person should be responsible for themselves. How many people maintain a good fitness regimen? I always here the well I have bad knees or ankle problems, etc. Sure they do. I am a little older than you also and have maintained a fitness regimen as part of my life, and yes I have kids and a wife. I have been outdoors running at 11pm in darkness before just to get a workout in. People don't need to tell me they don't have time. That's a bs response. Glad you are one of the ones staying in shape. It matters long term.

But he is Potus until Jan. I guess you mean all the answers will pop up just after the election from those hiding them now as they don't want to help him in any way

14 Florida Marlins have now tested positive in last two days. Home opener cancelled. Baseball could be getting ready to end experiment.

I agree. All you have to do is go out in public and see how unhealthy we are as a country. I had a checkup for an ear infection Monday and it’s in a medical park area with all sorts of clinics/offices. The amount of slow moving and out of shape people was crazy. Not all of these people were elderly either. Even sitting in the waiting room of the ear specialist there were overweight people. Preventative medicine needs more focus here and more people need to change their diet and exercise more. The lines at all the fast food locations just backs up that data and yes I will eat fast food from time to time.

Sorry, I don't usually post anything off ESPiN, but for anyone bringing up moving the season to the Spring this is interesting...

https://www.espn.com/college-footba...eason-coronavirus-impacted-schedule-look-like

Last month, in a confidential poll of college football players conducted by ESPN, 64 of the 73 players said they would be comfortable practicing and playing games without a coronavirus vaccine. Only 37 of the 73 said they would be willing to play two seasons in one calendar year if the 2020 season is delayed or interrupted.
---
Another potential problem is that the game's biggest stars -- NFL prospects such as Clemson's Trevor Lawrence, Ohio State's Justin Fields, Oregon's Penei Sewell, LSU's Ja'Marr Chase and others -- wouldn't play next spring because the college season would be so close to the NFL draft.

(Realistically, this applies to any player with a 1st or 2nd Round Draft grade)

The 2021 NFL draft is scheduled for April 29-May 1 in Cleveland, with the NFL combine in Indianapolis several weeks before then.

*the above was from a couple weeks ago, but it is still very relevant. No to Spring football!!
