Most embarrassing Schedules

On a similar note, Iowa had better come up with 1-2 dandy opponents for the non-conference schedule in 2024, because their conference schedule is an absolute joke. No OSU, Mich, Mich St or Penn St - it shouldn't even count as a real Big Ten schedule. 2027 will be the same if the schedule pattern remains unchanged.

A lot can change in 4 and especially 7 years

I don't disagree with that statement per se, but they could play B1G football for another 500 years, and in 450 of those years the easiest draw a West team would get from the East is Rutgers, Maryland and Indiana.
Things might drastically change in college sports after all the dust settles with the basketball and now football investigation....at least that is my hope. Turns out we think some of these kids are going to “blue bloods” because they are “blue bloods” but it’s really bc most of not all are cheating. Any team or coach that gets top kids annually (100 in football 20-50 in hoops) are probably cheating

Won't matter. Go 12-0 and Big Ten title game and you in the playoffs. 4 sure.

It wouldn't be a bad thing for fan interest if the NCAA stepped in and took over OOC scheduling. TV ratings are going to plummet with the crap being offered to the public.

You can complain all you want but the SEC has it down.
People care more about records than SOS.
Until the playoff committee awards a team with a worse record but better SOS over a team with a better record, it will stay that way.
The B1G May be all honorable by playing 9 conference games and no FCS, but I promise you it won’t help them get more teams over the SEC.

The 9 game conf schedule has cost the Big Ten a spot in the Final Four each of the past 3 years:
2016: Michigan lost to Iowa which conceivably was their 9th conf game. Had they played Citadel at home (a la Alabama) they would have been in the Final Four.
2017: OSU loses at Iowa (same as above)
2018: OSU loses at Purdue (same as above)

The SEC will always have 1 or 2 teams in the Final Four. With a 9 game conf schedule, the BIG ten will be lucky to get one every other year.
Additionally, more SEC teams are ranked higher than BIG TEN teams with an extra win guaranteed each year. Piss poor short sided decision to go to 9 conf games. Go back to 8!!!
Also, drop the stupid ISU series so we can play a home/home with another P5 team.

There is absolutely no way in hell you could conclude that 9 conference games kept the big ten out. No way to say whether or not those games happen or not.

Bottom line is SEC gets more credit than they deserve for having more “talent” so their teams are ALWAYS overranked by AP and coaches polls. As much as people say these polls don’t matter, it DOES have an influence on SOS. I’d love to play Nebraska early with their BS preseason ranking after going 4-8 and pretty much losing all their best players... same goes for teams like Florida, Tennessee, South Carolina and other SEC Teams who get ranked for no apparent reason.
The B1G is stupid for not playing the game like the SEC until the NCAA or CFP mandates and makes it regulatory.
The SEC is winning the popularity contest and laughing all the way to the bank with an 8 game conference schedule and cupcake OOC.

Alabama's schedule seems to be #1, with Florida a close 2nd.
Are the authors afraid to say that about Saban?

Back to back years Bama has played 3 cupcakes and 1 power 5. Duke this year and L'ville last year. Both teams they are playing are a year removed from losing a QB to the 1st rd of the NFL draft. When scheduling lot of these teams it's a crap shoot when scheduling them how many years out knowing how good they will be when you play them. I use to say this about Iowa when we had the 8 conf. game schedule. You'd think Saban and Bama being one of the only schools in the SEC wanting to play 9 conference games would try and schedule 2 power 5 non conference games at least.

On one hand besides last year and this coming season I commend Bama for always trying to get one tough non conference team which as I noted above doesn't always turn out to be the case like with FSU looking like a marquee matchup in 17' only to have them finish at .500. But on the other hand the last time they played 2 power 5 teams was in 2010 when they played Duke and PSU. If there is one team in the country that shouldn't be afraid of scheduling more than 1 power 5 non conf. and not having 3 easy non conference games you'd think would be them plus last time they played

At some point, here's what you do. Play your schedule, win games, and it all comes out in the wash. All this other stuff makes a fan base look like a bunch of........

The sec as a part scheduling FCS teams as their 11th game is a JOKE. There are a couple ACC teams doing the same. B12, Pac12 and B1G do not do that. It is the same sec teams doing it year after year.

Yeah Georgia and Florida are about the only 2 who try and schedule 2 power 5 non conference games. Mainly because just like Iowa they have instate rivals in another conference with GT and FSU in the ACC. Posted in another thread last year of the 28 ACC and SEC teams 4 played 2 power 5, 23 played 1 power 5 and 1 (Arkansas who had game cancelled vs Michigan so they could play ND) played 0 in their 4 non conference games.

That is pretty bad. As much as I sometimes despise the fact that we're stuck with the Iowa St game for the foreseeable future, at least Iowa and just about every B1G team (as well as Big12 & Pac12) plays at least 10 P-5 opponents every year. Only 4 ACC/SEC teams did last year? Holy smokes, I didn't know the discrepancy was that wide. Maybe the NCAA needs to step in and level the playing field.

Yet we have 40 bowl games and 35 are mostly crap ones yet people watch and companies pay to advertise.

You cant blame Florida for Miami and FSU sucking. Im sure when they booked both of these games both of the schools were ranked or at least solid opponents. IF Iowa had those 2 teams on in OOC schedule in the future, everyone would be talking about it for the years leading up to the schedule.

Bring up a good point. In 17' everyone talking about huge Alabama-FSU top 5 matchup and FSU ended up being a .500 team that year.

Minus a select few schools like Bama, Clemson, OU or Ohio St it's a crap shoot anymore when you schedule teams for OOC knowing how good they will be. Iowa would be a prime example of a team. Most games schedule well in advance. Reading on ESPN about some OOC games for 2030-31 already being made. Who knows how good a team will be 5 years down the line let alone 7-8 or 10+ years. I remember in 16' and 17' Nebraska fans ridiculing Iowa for ISU as our only OOC game and they were playing Oregon in the meantime. Funny thing was Oregon and ISU had exact same records for those 2 years combined at 11-14. Sure when it was scheduled when Oregon was in their prime they were expecting to face a top 10 team and ended up getting Oregon squad on it's downward spiral.
