I always watch both so I get both takes on every issue (Democrat/Republican). If you believe either is unbiased, all you have to do is go to both web sites right now, where MSNBC has prominently displayed the former GOP house speaker who's been indicted, vs. FoxNews who makes no mention.

Go to CNN to see if it's actually news (in this case, it is, as CNN also has it prominently displayed).

A couple weeks ago during the Texas Draw Mohammad attack, MSNBC quickly shoved it down the page and out of view, while FoxNews and CNN covered it from every angle, including the tweets that were sent out before the attack, while MSNBC never acknowledged it.

In that case, it was also actually news, as CNN gave it full attention.

Just an observation. If you get BBC, I'd recommend it. It's about as close as it gets to news without spin, although it leans left when it has opportunity, it is for the most part, just the news.

They're both pretty biased....on AFN they have Hannity on at 0700 followed by "All in" with Chris Hayes at 0800. It's like alternate reality when you watch both in succession.

I remember the "bridge gate" frenzy. 24/7 on MSNBC for a couple weeks...barely a word on Fox.

One big difference is that Fox obliterates msnbc in the ratings.

This could also be used in the breastfeeding in public thread.

Lol. Fox News makes no mention of the Dennis Hastert story, unless you count the fact that it's the first headline listed under "Top Stories".

It's common knowledge that Fox News leans hard to the right and MSNBC leans hard to the left. You're not exactly breaking new ground there.

I like to get my news from NPR, CNN, and BBC. Every news source has some bias and some agenda, but I'm a grownup and I'm capable of filtering it out and thinking for myself.

If you do a Google search for Dennis Hastert, the first link listed is to the Fox News story, even though Fox News apparently makes no mention of it.

And they covered Bridge Gate WAAAAYYY too much as well. Last week Megyn Kelly had that blob on for an interview and covered it AGAIN.

CNN just might not be the best neutral place to see if something is “actually news.”

Hastert is just another typical Illinois political hack. Illinois runs rampant with them. It is NOT a Democrat/Republican thing, it is more an institutional problem. Illinois politics is as dirty as it gets. It always has been and it always will be.

I have a brother who lived in Chicago for 15 years and now lives downstate for the past 30 years. He says there is no difference in the politics. In Cook County the Dems run everything (crookedly) and downstate, the GOP runs everything (crookedly).

Hastert is but another symptom of this problem.

Its reasons like those listed as to why I never, ever watch any of them for the day to day news.

Election nights, that's it, mostly for the sheer ridiculous entertainment value. Once every 2 years is enough...yet I tend to gravitate mostly to CNN those election nights.

MSNBC and Fox News are unwatchable ALL the time.

You got me, FoxNews was late to the punch but did in fact put it up prominently. The point is still the same, and I pretty much agree with everyone else here. They're all biased at some level. Far too many people though pick a source and rely heavily on it.

While I didn't know FoxNews killed MSNBC in the ratings, it makes perfect sense, as there are any number of places you can go to watch news stations jump all over the GOP negatively, but if you want to hear it from the GOP perspective, you can pretty much only go to FoxNews.

I hate to belabor the point here, but I get breaking news alerts on my phone from several news sources. When the story first broke the other day, the first alert I got was from Fox News. CNN's alert followed a few minutes later. Fox isn't exactly trying to hide this story.

I just watched a lengthy story about Hastert on Fox News. I really wonder about some of you folks sometimes.

Educated Americans are getting their news from major
newspapers on a daily basis.

Joel, it seems you do not understand what the problem with Hastert is. So I will bring you up to date.

He is in trouble for violating that very strange federal law that assumes you are a crook if you take $9,500 out of your bank, or put $9,500 in it, instead of $10,000. While those kinds of transactions were being investigated, Hastert apparently lied to the FBI.

But this isn't political. It appears that he was paying blackmail to a former student he sexually abused while he was a teacher and coach in high school, before he got into politics.

If you watched Fox News Channel, you would know all this stuff and wouldn't embarrass yourself :p

His wanting to put his thingy into places it didn't belong has nothing to do with it, Lone? His bank is the one who alerted the FBI. Allegedly he had moved LARGE amounts of money from accounts and tried to hide the fact from those who needed to know.
So anyway...Hastert is a typical Illinois thug pol whom is getting caught.
I think paying blackmailed to someone you abused is certainly legal. I never thought it was right that folks who robbed banks to pay off their gambling debts got in trouble, either.
Lone...either the guy broke a friggin' law or he didn't........There seems to be evidence out there saying he did. He can prove his innocence in court. Or perhaps Obama is just goin' rogue.
Oh, and by the way Lone...I guess it must be alright to lie to the FBI, right?
