MSU Football under lockdown

The cooler, more rational thinking went AWOL last March/April. Europe got hit hard then, went into strict lockdown led by national and science leaders and are now playing soccer. We split into 50 separate nations with no central leadership nor the will to defeat the virus. We are now seeing 10 times the cases as Europe, which has about 100 million more people. We whined about our freedom while they locked down...Voila.

The United States death rate per capita is lower than most major European countries. The number of cases per capita is higher. We are also testing more so this is decieving. We probably do have somewhat more cases than Europe, but our death rate per capita is lower and we will likely reach herd immunity faster. That is what counts.

there can be only one reason why oit catches covid-17 and nobody cares....nothing shuts down, yet covid-19 becomes solid gold panic porn....and that reason is the 2020 elections

Heard immunity is not feasible, it’s not going to happen without a vaccine and the suggestion is just pandering more stupid

I agree we need to open up. I read that 50 % of all restaurants are going to close and go out of business. We can not destroy this country for double or triple the normal flu deaths. If you aren’t using a N95 mask you are not stopping any virus. And you know it will or has mutated so a vaccine is even iffy
Completely wrong.

Of course it's possible. At this point there is only two likely scenarios where this virus goes away. One is through herd immunity from a vaccine. The second, pending the unsuccessful development of a vaccine, is naturally acquired herd immunity from enough people getting sick and developing antibodies. The second option would take longer, but of course it's possible.

The virus is never going away. Ever. We either need to just shut everything down forever and destroy this country, or get on with our lives.

I just shake my head at all these calls to cancel everything in order to “stop” the virus. Well......you can’t “stop” a virus.

You are correct, and the CDC says 12,000 people died. We have quarantined for Covid and 150,000 have died. You are currently 10-11 times more likely to die from Covid even though we quarantined, and it is not over yet so it will only climb.
I believe I read that flu causes 30K to 60K (depending on year) deaths. So I think 10 times is an exaggeration. Also things like a kid that dies in a car accident but gets a death certificate of covid death - doesn't give us a lot of confidence.

True. When I say "go away" in regards to a vaccine or herd immunity I really mean "reach levels low enough that the number of new cases is very small." But you are correct, it will probably become endemic in the community and never totally go away.

You actually can, and there are many solutions in-between those 2 extremes that are all better options.

Immunity only lasts so long. Studies already showing as early as 3 months. You can’t get 70% of the population infected in 3 months.

just curious, how many kids have to die before you cancel the season? staffers? refs?
I use to wonder that about alcohol and tobacco but the government profits from that.

Mandatory crash helmets in cars would save even more lives than cancelling football.

How many test per person are we running? How many for each euro nation?

If what appear to believe is true, then you are arguing for permanent shut down. Because no typical vaccine will work either.

Fact is, there have been zero confirmed fatalities from COVID that are known to be distant re infections. I believe both natural herd immunity or vaccine related herd immmunity are possible and people that state otherwise are just a crazy as OiT and his theories.

Ottumwa, you are the best read poster on this forum. You have regurgitated every conspiracy theory and article of misinformation floating out there. Stand proud!

you and Kurt Warner would be a great friendship.

I do not believe in a shut down. Europe is a perfect example of how things can be opened as safely as possible in this new reality. Testing, tracing and isolation in combination with masks, distancing when appropriate and protecting the most vulnerable. Instead we get people like many in this thread preventing that from being feasible here. Vaccine only way to get to 70% exposure without massive fatalities and healthcare disaster. Being smart is bridge to vaccine.

Funny I had a Covid tracker installed on my phone automatically. You didn't? Most are distancing and wearing masks, you are basically in the minority if you don't.
You think 10 people on the internet are ruining the whole thing?

+1 for this....even some staunch GOP politicians are now actually saying how ridiculous this idea is.

the healthcare system is struggling with what 5-10% of the population being exposed? and herd immunity, if it’s even feasible requires probably what 70%?

Sure you might not die from COVID personally but all the sudden that normally survivable accident where you cut yourself in the shop? Yeah you will bleed out in the overflowed ERs

People are stupid and believe that Donald is about the people and not for himself......

Europe is also a good example if what common sense and selflessness can do....hard sell in America anymore!
