MSU has every right to cancel the game on their own accord if their medical staff doesn't feel comfortable with how OSU has handled their response, recovery and reporting of the covid situation that impacted the Buckeye team.

MSU's responsibility and priority is to take every precaution to protect it's own student-athletes and campus population.

This is not just simply an OSU decision alone.

Only takes one team to call it off.

So if that's the case, could they both end up playing different opponents Saturday?

Nope. Heck, OSU called the game off vs. Illinois on Friday.

And don't put it past Michigan to shut things down next week and deny OSU that game. One less loss for UM to OSU, and shut OSU out of another B1G title.

Don't think for a moment that these thoughts aren't floating around the state of Michigan.

MSU is 2-3 and UM is 2-4. Lost seasons.

OSU cancels a game while under the threshold that was to be held @ Illinois, then magically recovers and can play a home game the next week vs. MSU. Okie dokie.

How would MSU's medical staff be aware of OSU's response, recovery and reporting of the covid situation that impacted the Buckeye team?

If OSU certifies they've followed the B1G protocols, but MSU claims they don't believe them, and refuses to play, they better have some strong evidence. Otherwise, it's not a canceled game. It's a forfeit.

Why would MSU, or Michigan for that matter, not have a right to have that information in order to make an informed decision on behalf of their university, student athletes and staff?

What is this certification process you speak of? I'm not aware.

OSU cancelled the Illinois game being under the threshold. Would the next competing team up (MSU) not want to understand the particulars before making a decision on traveling to Columbus and competing? And do they not have a professional and moral obligation to act in their own best interest?

It's not strong evidence from MSU - it's lack thereof in terms of a strong explanation from OSU on how things have gotten better. And then consideration and decision on the part of MSU.

There are no forfeits in any of these games. None. They're just cancelled. Those are the rules.

What am I missing?

If OSU says they have met the B1G protocols, don't you imagine any information they shared with MSU would provide evidence of exactly that?

And the certification process involves OSU (or any other team for that matter) saying they qualify to play based on the B1G protocols. Part of being in a conference is trusting your peers.

Finally, the rules are that games canceled due to a failure to meet agreed upon protocoals for playing games are cancellations. But you're talking about a game in which both teams meet state they've met those protocols, but one team chooses not to play anyway.

Of course, none of that is going to happen anyway. Either both teams are going to state they've met the protocols, and the game will be played. Or one team will state otherwise, and the game will be cancelled.

The game is in East Lansing.

Nah, f*** Northwestern.

They don't deserve a gift-wrapped fake Big Ten title.

MSU and Michigan need to sack up and take their Ls.
