The Battle of the Little Brown Jug wasn't played on Thursday night, but both Michigan and Minnesota opened 0-1, after losing to good Utah and TCU programs, respectively. Oregon State comes to Ann Arbor and Minnesota must travel to Colorado Springs for a dangerous game against CSU?

Michigan State opened at Western Michigan, in the tune-up ahead of next week's home opener vs. Oregon. Too early to know, who is the better one there.

Northwestern 16, Stanford 6 ... 11 am start (I didn't look close enough at schedule), but Wildcats are a very good program in September under Pat Fitzgerald, after back to back 5-7 seasons. A QB Iowa recruited, is starting as a redshirt freshman. Clayton Thorson is a younger C.J. Beathard from a run-pass standpoint.

Iowa did everything they should have, but next week will be a completely new ball game, against a team that will have players who are larger and faster.

Maryland and Rutgers beat FCS programs, as well.

Illinois will win, as they should.

Nice start for the Iowa Hawkeyes. Leadership is important and it showed. Iowa needs each unit to step up, as Eddie pointed out, as well.

Kirk Ferentz is bringing this roster along. I hope DMX can get healthy, Iowa needs a #3 RB to complement two very good RBs, but Iowa needs another option for those B1G games.

On Iowa!

Penn State at Temple is next ...
