Multiple PSU Players With Covid According To Greg Gard

From player interviews, this appears to be an Iowa basketball players' life: If they are not at home, they are at the facility practicing, studying & taking online courses. They grab all the food they need when they leave for home. The players don't see anyone but their coaches & teammates. This, of course, only changes when they have a game to play.

No names named. He was just responding to why the game was postponed. Not exactly privacy info.

Still a dumb ass thing to do,.. Everybody knew why the game was postponed when the announcement indicated that Wisconsin's practices would continue without interruption..

Absolutely no reason for a team to have an outbreak at this point, unless you are stupid. Campuses are empty.

It's a contagious virus. There will continue to be cases despite best efforts of teams. Iowa happened to have most/many of the team get it earlier in the summer/fall. Does that mean there was no reason for them get it earlier?

Hopefully the daily testing and early detection can keep the cancellations to a minium.

Did you read the article and what Gard said in it?

Holy shit, a lot to do about nothing.

PSU has canceled four straight games, including two against the top four currently in the standings. I think missing games are a big deal, especially if they aren't able to be made up. It's bad enough we have uneven schedules with some teams obviously enjoying an advantage, but to have an uneven amount of games played could really skew the league outcome.

If there are cases on the team, then it just makes sense about the protocol. It is what it is right now. We knew this would happen. Not sure why it still surprises people at this point.

Yes....

In a Zoom conference with UW beat writers, Gard said early Saturday morning he was informed that multiple Penn State players had positive COVID-19 tests after being given time off for the Christmas holiday. “I just felt very uncomfortable with the timing,” Gard said. “The fact that there was multiple positive tests within a short time span, the fact that it was all student-athletes, the fact that we knew they had been off on break the previous week — before, in between or around Christmas. So just the information we had, I just didn't feel comfortable.”

The most Gard needed to do was indicate that the decision to postpone was driven by conditions at Penn State...

I prefer to say this was just an excellent strategy on the part of Iowa Basketball.

Why? What he said was important. After what WI went through in football, they have a right to be a little skittish about playing teams that appear to have problems keeping their players from getting infected.
