Dumb and Dumber gets played in our house frequently by our pre-teen children and of course there is the Mmmmm Mmmmm Mmmmm song in there by the Crash Test Dummies that everyone can remember and knows, but long story short, I pulled up a Crash Test Dummies mix on a drive to a ball game this weekend and I forgot how good the "God Shuffled His Feet" album was.

Its so weird and funky and different that its actually pretty great? I had that album as a kid on cassette and listened to it all the time, but had almost forgot about it.

And its strange how songs you hadn't thought of or listened to in 30 years come back to you in an instant when you hear it a again.

So what say you HBOT? Any songs or bands that "struck a chord" with you after many years tucked away in your memory?

***a couple of my favs I forgot about:

This weekend I remembered !!! existed so I've been listening to Thri!!!er. Also MS MR, but I feel like her stuff is a little outdated, same with Sylvan Esso. CHVRCHES and Flock of Dimes have really held up over time, though.

I have a confession: I always liked LedZep but never really appreciated it.

Now, spending some time with people in the industry and hearing them speak.... led zeppelin was amazing.

If you can scratch out 20 minutes to take thr long way home, take thr slow lane, throw on your favorite Zep tune and remember what actual music was.

"If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed now
It's just a spring clean for the May queen
Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run
There's still time to change the road you're on"

I was never really into the big beat genre, but I was super into Fatboy Slim - You've Come A Long Way Baby. Just started listening for the first time in years because of this thread.

I'll throw this in here since it's music related. One of my favorite bands, American Aquarium, played at the Salvage Station in Asheville on 9/15. Two weeks later, the Salvage Station is no more along with the rest of the River Arts District. They recorded the show and it's available on Bandcamp with all proceeds going to hurricane relief. This Friday, Bandcamp will forgo their own cut so the entire purchase price will be donated.

And if you ever get the chance, you should see these guys. They put on a hell of a show.

They're playing in Des Moines on Wednesday. I unfortunately won't be able to make it though

Archers of Loaf is another worthy band from your neck of the woods that is worth a listen and continued reunion shows.

We saw them in the mid-90’s I think at Cat’s Cradle. They definitely put on a great show. I was unaware they had reunited so thanks for that. The NC music scene at that time was so good - going back to the late 80’s. Mitch Easter was with Let’s Active…not well known but cited by others as a big influence. Mitch was two years ahead of me in high school and ended up producing REM’s first two or three albums so they were in our area a lot before they blew up. An all-time favorite from then who’s still playing is Superchunk. They’re also the folks who started Merge Records.

I first heard this band in my late 30's, and loved what they produced. Brad Roberts had one of the most "Unique" voices ever recorded.

I still listen to them sometimes today.

Other songs this thread reminded me of included one I heard earlier "yesterday" from ELP, "From the Beginning".

ELP was a vastly underrated band screwed over by the Rock and Roll HOF. These guys produced a lot of great music and never got the recognition they deserved. I hate to think of the lesser bands in the HOF and these guys never made it.

A couple more from my "era" that always ring true for me include:

Another vastly underrated band of my time.

And finally:

Carly Simon, because she was just, kind of HOT. :p
